Volkswagen Unveils the Mildly Updated 2021 Atlas Share Comments Volkswagen has unveiled a facelifted Atlas at the Chicago Auto Show. With new looks inside and out, and new driver assistance features, the 2021 Atlas should impress the SUV crowd. The new looks should make the Atlas look bigger, not least of all because it actually is three inches longer. Its new grille and front fascia, too, have been updated to look a little more like the handsome new Cross Sport. The R-Line, too will come with its own unique bumper design and side skirts to give it that sporty look we all crave. Inside, the new Atlas gets a new steering wheel, an 8-inch infotainment screen (on all models but the base S), and contrast-stitching on on the leather seats and door cards. As with the exterior, the changes aren’t revolutionary, but they are improvements, so they’re welcome. You can also optionally get: “Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, Fender® Premium Audio System, ambient lighting, 3-zone Climatronic® climate control, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless charging, and remote start,” according to VW. The update also comes with VW’s updated Car-Net system, which, among other things, allows for 4G LTE WiFi that can be used by up to four devices at a time. VW’s suite of safety technology also means that you’ll get help braking in case there’s an imminent crash coming ahead of you, you’ll get a heads up about any pedestrians crossing your path, and you’ll get a hand staying in your lane. “The Atlas has been a huge success story for Volkswagen of America,” said Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen’s US arm. “This refreshed model brings all the functionality of the previous model, and ups the ante with new technology and more style.” Engine options stay the same, with the 276 hp V6 and a 235 hp 2.0-liter four-pot. Both make use of an 8-speed automatic transmission. The four cylinder is now also available all the way up to the top trim levels with 4Motion AWD.
