Volkswagen US Teases its New Compact SUV, Will Reveal it On October 13 Share Comments Update 09/10/20: Volkswagen released another teaser, this time a profile shot of the compact crossover. SUVs are so hot right now that major brands are discontinuing cars altogether. So it’s no wonder that VW’s US arm wants to squeeze another SUV into its range. And here’s your first official look at the little guy. Set to be officially revealed on October 13, the as-yet-unnamed crossover will be the smallest in VW’s fleet. Designed specifically for the US market, the compact SUV will compete with the likes of the Jeep Compass and Subaru Crosstrek. “We’re excited to share the first glimpse of the newest member of the Volkswagen family,” said Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. “Great things come in small packages, as Volkswagen has proven throughout the years with its iconic Beetle, Golf and Jetta. This next car will be no exception.” Smaller than the Tiguan, the new crossover will be based on the MQB platform and will therefore have access to VW’s familiar selection of drivetrains. Anything from the Jetta’s 147 hp 1.4-liter TSI to the Tiguan’s 184 hp 2.0-liter TSI engine should be available. Since it’s a crossover, there is always the possibility of 4Motion AWD.
