You're going to have a very hard time tucking a 9.5" wheel with no modification to your fenders. You will likely come into contact with your suspension while trying to avoid your fenders. The only way to do it will be to add camber. Hopefully some of the stance guys will chime in.

See you are in the Bay Area... Good shops for our cars? I have been out of the VW scene for awhile looking for a UMtune and a place to have my Bagged Suspension worked on...?
I have I'm looking for a Rotiform Nue set up et35. I have seen mk4 R32s running 18x9.5s all around with 3mm spacers up front and 20mm rear like DAPPERs BMP 04' R32. you can see it if you Google it.

Not 9.5, but I had 18x9 et40 with 215/40/18s all the way around. I had to max out my camber plates in the front and max my camber in the rear to have a good fitment. The rears had a slight pull and the front fenders are 10mm wider.

Mr PEACH What is the largest I can go without Modifying Fenders??? Any Info HELPS I just got my R32 a couple months ago

I know a guy who ran 18x8 et 39 on the front and it ended up baking the fenders. Ain't now way in hell you're getting 18x9.5 on there without heavy modification.

Skip the scene points and put something on the car that fits.

If you actually want to drive the car, don't even think about it.

If you want to fit 9.5's on a VW get a TT MK2 or Passat/CC.

"maxing out camber" on smaller tires will kill handling and tire wear. And "maxing out" is just about anything passed -2.5degrees in the front. and that's with camber plates. If you are somehow getting -2.5 degrees or more without camber plates and/or being super low, you can kiss your handling good bye. Now if thats fine with you and your intended driving, a 18x9.5 ET 45+ Can fit. Anything lower won't without major modifications to the fender.

Voice of reason. ^^^

You'll have a hard time tucking up front

I ran 18x9.5 square setup on my r32. You can tuck the rears with 3 degrees of camber.

The fronts you'll have a tough time. Mine were rolled and slightly pulled and they sat fender to lip. Bacon fenders will problably happen unless you are extremely careful with your driving height and when you air out.

Lets not get into the "ruining handling" debate. I was still able to have plenty of fun driving my r hard on 205's and camber.

Well its not a debate, i said quite matter of factly - it will ruin handling.

I won't even entertain your argument any further than that. You don't have to be a genius to put that basic formula together that
smaller tire + less tire contact patch = less grip.

Not all of us are focused on getting the ultimate driving performance from our cars. Looks>performance in my books. Could it have handled better? sure, but like i said i still had plenty of grip and good enough handling for daily fun. :peace:

Everyone CHILL i just decided I am going to be running a 18x8.5..... How about telling and helping me with some BEST ET#s for a stock fender...FOR 18x8.5...?

Thanks Bryan
This is my R32 on stock suspension. It sits on a very common fitment wheel, an 18x8 et45 OZ Ultraleggera:
Image

That's with a 235/40/18 Dunlop Direzza Star Spec on it. The tire actually measures about 242mm across the meaty bit, so 'fat' for a 235.

This was intended as a "motorsports" setup that looks OK. I've been asked once or twice "What spacers are you running to get flush like that?" Straight, no spacer.

Even at that, I get some compression rubbing in the rear:
Image

It was worse with the original rear diff which on mine was mounted offset to the right by maybe 5mm. Rubbed the right rear fender. I replaced the rear diff assembly (smoked a Haldex) and the new one is mounted truer.

Up front I did the 'fender screw mod'.

This is the 'experience base' I draw from on these fitment Qs. When I see them, I typically go to:
http://www.willtheyfit.com/

and plug in my setup as a base, then "your dream setup". I look at the graphic and try and decide if you've gone too far.

I think you could *probably* run a 18x8.5 et45 wheel, but not with my tire. You'd want a 225 or less.

Wheel fitment questions almost always 'fork' between performance guys and stance guys. Yeah, I'd like it if my set up looked cool, but I'm more concerned with how much the wheel weighs, and can I get some decent rubber on the ground for max handling. A performance wheel like that OZ weighs a tad over 19#. Some of the cool looking wheels are 30# or more. You can really feel a difference in the way the car drives with that change in rotating and unsprung weight.

I have changed out the the suspension since that first photo was taken. It now sits roughly 3/4" lower and has 2.0 degrees camber at all four corners. My preference would have been to leave it at stock height for performance reasons, but it's really hard to find a high functioning suspension that isn't lowered.

I have 18 x 8.5 et35 with 225 conti's. 8.5 gives a bit of stretch for a better look. Camber is setup for slicks, -3 degrees up front and -2 in the rear. I have a bunch of room up front and even using a 5mm spacer. Looking to move to a 10-15mm spacer in the future, just need longer studs/spacers for the front.

9" wheel with 45et would work nice and give a bit more stretch, would like to try that in the future with a 225.

Just to chime in I ran 18x9 et38 all around on my R32 and rubbed all around (no camber or fender work just some rolling). I ran it for a season then swapped to 18x8.5 et45 front 18x8.5 et35 rear.

The old set up

I run ET42 18x8.5

I'd say this is really as fat as you can go, ET and width wise on the R32. GTI you can go a little lower ET, but not much.

I run 215s and tbh, a decent pothole on this size tire is going to damage the wheel - I prob will switch to 225 for more protection and grip.

I'm on Koni coils (not for much longer). FTG I believe I'm around 24.5" (1.5 inch lowering) Stock is around 26.1" IIRC.

No rubbing.
