A bit of a newbie question: I've searched and I understand a bunch of the facts, but if anyone can share their experience/opinions I'd really appreciate it.
I've got a bone-stock '02 gti on 18 inch BBS RCs. I'd like to lower it a little bit, and stiffen up the ride a touch. I don't want it slammed, and I don't want to sacrifice too much ride comfort (I'll still have to deal with horrible city streets), but something a little more aggressive would be cool.
Would you recomend the Neuspeed sportsoft springs? and perhaps a rear sway? How about stock 20ae/337 springs, would they make a noticable difference?
Is there anything else that I might be missing?
Thanks for the help.

You will need upgraded dampers for sure. Neuspeed Sofsport + Koni adjustables is what I have. It's nice, but sometimes a little rough for me even set full soft(getting to be an old man); I'm willing to accept the tradeoff for the better handling.
The only thing about the Sofsports is that they won't be as low as the 20ae/337 springs, if you want a lowered look the Neuspeeds won't do a lot for you. The Neuspeed Sports are the same spring rates but lower.
I had great results with Eibach Pro-Kit + Konis, it didn't handle quite as well as the Neuspeeds (though it could get darned close with the dampers dialed up a bit) but was more comfortable. H&R sports + Konis would probably be similar to this but I have no first-hand experience with that setup.
Another option to start with, especially if you are planning on doing your own install, is just get a set of the Bilstein TC dampers and see what that does for you. Then you could add springs later down the road if you want. Actually, that's a good plan with any dampers, just mentioned the TCs because they are attractively priced ($240 a set last time I checked at shox.com).

aside from the above post, I assume you're running 40 series profile (or less) on your 18" rims? Tire profile, in combination with stiff springs/dampers is going to amplify any rough road surfaces... Avoid SofSports if you can't handle dancing coins! Definately get Koni adjustables if comfort is an issue for you.
