I won't argue with that. My GLI was and my E46 is black. As over as I am dealing with the heat and keeping them clean I'm at least familiar with the proposition.
That and also black 987s are

Dan - I can offer some direct experience that might benefit you w/re to the Charger suggestions. I had a Speed3 for four years. It was a great car; fast, reliable, and pretty practical for a family man with two kids and two dogs. I transitioned out of that into a new Challenger RT in 2012. For the first two weeks I had deep buyers remorse. It was like driving an aircraft carrier. The V8 was nice but it just wasn't a responsive as the quick spool turbo in Mazda. And then... I dunno... I got used to it and came to understand the nature of the car and fell in love with it. I'm now on my second Challenger, this time with the 392 and over 100 more hp. I. LOVE. MY. CAR. It's not as nimble as a Mustang or Camaro, and it has inferior power to weight, but that big back seat can swallow adults over 6' tall, whole. People report riding in comfort back there for fairly long distances. And for me, it is so much more comfortable than my small cars were.

I picked up my 2012 new for about $34K. It was a special order for a United Airlines pilot who walked on the deal at the last minute. Or so I was told. The point being, you can probably big up something nearly new in your price range.

I would say G37S 6MT or S4 6MT.

S4 for all around competence and G37S for that extra reliability factor.

Those are my top two for next car.

The G has really great aftermarket parts and mods support.

Lots of reasons. It's not an S, which has both more power and torque, the blue seat inserts, and from what I've seen that auto is not a pdk, but a regular tiptronic.

I would pass.
What are some things that are very specific to the S over the non-S? That particular car is listed as a Cayman but there is an S on the boot lid. As for the seats, I happen to like the blue inserts; reminds be of the b5 S4 nogaro blue interior. I know that the transmission in this car is not PDK, wondering if anyone has actual experience with it and if it doesn't suck.

Yea, but its better than Silver and I am not a yellow kind of guy. That leaves the dark blue, black and grey...so very different from each other.

Interesting points, I'm definitely going to line up a test drive. I believe my mother's JGC is due for an oil change soon, sounds like a solid excuse to make it over to the dealer.

Love the S4, I'd likely go IS350 before I went for a G.

350 or bust. Recently realized fully loaded 2014 350 f sports are in my range. Taking a good look at those. I know the predator grill isn't for everyone but it the overall design language has grown on me.

I'm not a cayman expert and the pics from the ad are blurry on my phone, but my recollection is that S model cars have dual exhaust outlets and red calipers, which this car does not appear to have. I would do a separate vin search on this car to confirm the ad. I have no direct experience with the tiptronic in the cayman, but I've never read/heard anything positive about it. If it's close to you, I would just check it out.

In addition to its bigger brakes and suspension tweaks, the s has 50 more hp and tq than std. Some like hawk would probably say it's not worth the premium. I would say it depends on how you are going to use the car. If you rarely drive your car above 4k rpms, the s is probably not worth the extra cash.

So by all means stick around, add to the thread, hell even keep trolling; I don't care, but just know I am not confused.
I was actually making fun of TCL's tendency to recommend Mazda and Volvo no matter what. No "Jap" agenda here.

Yeah, except that shtick was "funny" six months ago but as ever, you're the guy telling the same joke long after it's worn out.

Yes, we know.
OP didn't and thought I was being serious. I was replying to him.

Sorry. Back to fresh material like the BMW turn-signal joke or F&F memes.

Wut? Give Us Our Ross Back!

Wat da hell? Ross1013 is looking at VW station wagons and trolling with old Mazda jokes? Has someone taken over his account? Ha!
I had high hopes for you, stranger that I've never met, assured you would buy a new Type R and not settle for a staid Golf R.
But I kid ya, I kid Ross1013 and totally get it. I may do something similar in that I'll keep the fun to drive FiST and drive the Mrs Subaru when she gets ready to buy again.
Only thing on the horizon that will get me back to looking is a new Subaru STI hatchback. Like your Si, I will keep the FiST no matter what.

OP, Dan the man, I like where you're going with your search. I would love to drive a Cayman S. I like kiznarsh's Caymen, they are sweet. I'll check back in to see what you pick up.

UPDATE 12/4

I've narrowed the search. It was, until something popped up, between a 06-07 Cayman Ss and IS350 Fsports. The s4's and 335i's in the price/mileage bracket I am in didn't suit everything I was looking for. Most of the 335i's were F chassis's and I'm not much of a fan (I'd rather have e9x, but nearly only coupes available), didn't help that most were non M-sports as well. The s4's just seemed rough around the edges and already slightly dated looking because of the LED running light changes.

I then realized that I loved the Cayman for its driving prowess but didn't like that it was still in the same tech era that my 04 E46 is in while I liked the Lexus because it was all the tech I could want but I would be giving up much of the driving experience. Then a 13,000 mile 2013 135i alpine white over red BMW popped up on the radar. I've gone to drive it, it is exactly what I wish my E46 was, which is basically just more power and modern tech. It's a perfect blend of tech, power, simplicity and sporty/GT that i am looking for in a daily. Admittedly the E81 is a little more of a pig than the e46, but it is overall a fantastic package.

I left the dealer in the position that the car needed an alignment and balance and I would come back hoping to close the deal once they run it through the shop. So I ask, what could possibly go wrong on making a deal for a 13k mile 2013 135i? This is an N55 car not an N54, I don't care about modifying, if anything ever happened it would be a Jb4/cobb and exhaust (more likely to remain stock).

I would get it. It will require money and maintenance down the road but it is a BMW so it is what it is. Perfect color combo, great power band too. I actually prefer the 128i (I know lol) but hey who can argue with a lot more power. I say go for it.

Maintenance is in line with any other premium luxury automobile, won't be much different from my E46. From what i have read it seems like all the issues the N54 had were rectified by this point in the N55. I agree w/ you on the color combo, this car is exactly as I had built them on BMW's site back when new. The 128i would be too much of a side step instead of an upgrade coming from my 330ci and considering I have no plans to modify I want as much stock power as possible. I personally love how BMW managed to keep the linear nature of the I6 while boosting it.

I'll be going back to the dealer some time in the next few days hopefully to finalize this. *knocks on wood*

IIRC, there are at least two 135i owners here and they both had major issues. I would much rather a 128i myself.

That is true but, IIRC, one or both of those cars were high mileage, N54, modified vehicles. Additionally, one of them had an uncommon but catastrophic failure relating to a bolt within the vanos system I believe; one that was dealt with via recall and changed in later years as best as I can tell.

Paging 135i or N54/55 owners to chime in on helpful info and realistic impressions of the motor and things to look for. Again I'm looking at a 2013 N55 motored car.
