IS Auburn VW mod friendly??? I have been holding off on chipping my car among other mods simply because I dont want to void my 4 year warranty.

ah, you found the weak link. we are not chip friendly. it won't void your whole warranty, but if your problem is related to the aftermarket chips, you'll be fightin' VW over it being a covered repair.
other than that, it's all good... (or funny, or really, really sad...

when NiteQwill had his jetta in last saturday, me and the other tech actually liked his car. a few mods, tastefully done. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Why are dealers so anal about chipping??? We had our 2000 BMW 530i chipped BY THE DEALER and it didnt void the warranty.... I guess that is why BMW is considered the "Ultimate Driving machine".

Re: (SeattleChad)

Basically, its because VWoA is an evil corporation and VWAG has no idea what the other hand is doing.
For example, VWoA had a lawyer based in the Midwest investigating independent
shops that had a VW or anything resembling VW in their Yellow Pages ad. This lawyer called each and every shop and demanded that they pay the minimum fine of 5k$ to his firm for trademark infringement. This meant that you could not have the letter "V" and "W" representing your shop anywhere within public view. To the point at which a certain shop was threatened to be sued for using the word "Bug" in their name (yes, the name of the shop). The stupid lawyer claimed that VWoA had a trademark on the word "Bug". Which is a total crock of hsit. I also have a friend in Germany that was told by VWoA to remove the VW symbols from his website because it was infringing on VW trademarks. He then emailed VWAG (the company that makes really good VW's where he lives) and they were pissed. Havent heard much about the stupid lawyer in a while. I guess he figured he wasnt going to win them all.

because if the chip is programmed to make your engine peform outside of vw's specs, (overboost, whatever...) and say you blow your turbo, why should vw have to pay for it?
your car comes from the factory to perform a specific way. deviate from that and damage your car, you'll have to pay for it...

It seems that if there is a market for aftermarket tuning, VWoA would offer it via their dealerships and cash in on some of the action....like BMW of Seattle does by chipping their customers cars and honoring the warranty.....
just my thought.... <sigh>

Re: (SeattleChad)

you've got that wrong. BMW doesn't cash in on the aftermarket. If you buy a chip from BMW Seattle, you are buying a Dinan chip. Dinan covers the warranty of their products and anything that may be damaged by them installed on the car. They have an agreement with BMW NA that Dinan aftermarket parts will not void the existing BMW warranty. The only ones making money on BMW aftermarket is Dinan and their dealers.

regardless... the 2000 BMW 530i that we had chipped at BMW of Seattle was covered under a warranty with the Dinan chip.... and we didnt get screwed for anything....we have never had problems with the car either....but again, it IS a BMW..... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yes, please, take your attitude to where it will be among like minded arrogance.

no attitude... just comparing my experience with the two car companies regarding chipping and warranties....

Re: (SeattleChad)

ah but you are still not getting it. If Dinan didn't do the leg work and demonstrate to BMW that their chips (or aftermarket parts) wouldn't damage the car, you'd be in the same situation as you are with VW. The Key point for you to understand: If a Dinan part causes damage, Dinan would pay the warranty claim. BMW is just like VW, they take zero risks when it comes to warranty issues. The company you should be praising here is Dinan, not BMW.

IMO, your argument is invalid about VW. I dont want to reiterate what David already said, but your taking the motor to another level where it wasnt designed necessarily for. The warrenty was designed to help you out, but, only in the limitations of the engines design.
By your theory, i could turbocharge my vr6, run 18+ pounds of boost, blow something in my engine, then take it into the dealership for service under warrenty. Cmon.....
