I did order the digital dashboard and i am loving it, coming from an pre facelift golf 7 gti performance i do have the direct comparison.
I really like the more of information you get, the best part in my opinion is the navigation screen.
In germany the digital dash is still an option on the golf r, so we can choose. In switzerland for example the digital dash is standard in the r.
What is also really great is the active lighting system with the led headlights, it is fantastic.

The side skirts are different also, even the exhaust has slightly different dimensions.
Does the dash have google maps like the audi version? Or is it just the standard Nav maps?

It is just the standard nav maps, google maps is only available in the discover pro screen, also here in germany from 2018 on vw will no longer support google maps, just only for the old models that have ordered this feature for ten years on or so.
Google street view is already gone from the new ones.
Think it is an licensing problem or something like this.
We will see, also i think it is not an important feature, because with the google view you loose focus on your route i think, it is easier to see without all the different stuff.
It looks way cooler i must admit.

That would be a little annoying for the passenger, don't you think?
If you have the DSG how are the ratio's now with the 7th gear? Is 7th just a cruise gear or is it the same as the previous 6th ratio with closer spaced intermediate ratio's ?
Or, you could look up the specs yourself......

Love my 16 gti autobahn pp dsg but REALLY want an R. The 7 speed has me intrigued and its ability to achieve hopefully better highway mpg's...
The whole point of an R is performance. Leave the gearing alone!
Nice vid of a 7.5 here jousting with a Cayman GT4 ... I notice a lot more rapid gear shifting like the intermediate gears are shorter

for question number 1: the strip in front of the passenger does not light up, just the door trims. This feature is atm only available in the new vw arteon.
For number 2: i have an manual, but for what i have heard the 7 gear dsg is also pretty good, not a cruiser but shifts nicer at lower gears.
For number 3: i havent tried carplay through the digital dash because i havent ordered it, i can also not believe it would work on the digital dash. The rest as music selecting and so on, this is selectable on the digital dash.
As for the clubsport, this is not available anymore, even here in germany atm, probaply it will come later. Havent heard that anything like this is planned.
In the video you can clearly see it is the old clubsport model.
