I am puting on a 1.8 head that has been redone on my 2.0 block. All the valves move freely up and down, i checked with the rubber end of a hammer by pushing on them. When cams are installed they will not spin at all. All internals are from the 1.8 head except for the cam bearings and lifters are from the 2.0 head that was on there. Anyone have any idea why this is happening??? thanks

the old ones were all rusted, will ones out of another 1.8 head work?

No, they're specific to their bearing number on their specific head. Because they're cast with the head, the tolerances have to match.

Unless you have had some serious P&P done to the head it would be cheaper to throw it out and get a complete head than the machining and custom bearing work necessary to replace a missing or damaged bearing cap. Not one of VW's more intelligent designs unfortunately. Sorry
