250 dollar fine for tinted windows???????? WTF???????????

I just got back from the local town court I was asked to be at.
Judge calls on my name then he tells me 250 dollar fine or remove the tint and pay 100 dollars... weren't tint fines like 45-55???? I almost got in trouble since it was so much BS i shouted out what the hell??? infront of the judge...

Now another question, how much did you guys pay to remove front 2 window tints??

I got a tint ticket back in the day with my scirocco and it was just a fix it ticket.... showed up at court with the tint removed from the door windows only and paid $0.... that is rough man.

As for paying... don't pay to get it removed. Just pull it off and use goo-gone to get the sticky crap off.

How dark is your tint? I go to school in Roc and I'm getting my windows done soon. Dont want those guys to be azzs when I come back up to school.

i'm from hawaii and i received two tint tickets.....they were each 95dollars. I think it was 95 per window that was illegal but the cops were nice....btw: i have 5% all around except front windshield

i have limo all around and i've been pulled over once for it..
the cop actually pulled me over for speeding and ended up giving me a tint ticket..
turns out they are not correctable anymore.. but the "new guy" at the police station screwed up and i got him to sign my ticket. cost me $10
o yeah.. and i still have my limo tint all around~
swapped lic plates with my friend and got the ticket signed

Don't worry too much about getting the tint ticket... I was both lucky and unlucky...
Basically, cops usually don't even care if you have tint on your windows... WHat happened to me was, I got pulled over for speeding... doing 79 on 55mph zone. the cop was real nice and just ended up giving me a tint ticket instead.
I'm keeping my tint !!

What % tint you guys have..im running 35%, no problems yet...its preety see through...
Would have went with 20%, but i didnt want to be bothered by cops

yep, tint tix can be issues per window, since each window w/illegal tint is technically an offense

the problem is that on Mk4's (mine atleast) they come factory with a decent amount of tint so when you get more tint its gonna be way over the "advertised" tint percentage

In CA you just get a fix-it ticket. You fix it, then go to local police and have them sign the ticket, mail in the ticket with $10 and your done.

I got stuck in a random state inspection sting. Pulled me over for a euro plate and then they saw that i had tint. got tickets for both and they took my inspection sticker. the tint ticket was $45. I got a new inspection sticker from work the next day.

Its been a while since you have gotten a ticket for tint huh? In Ca its optional for the officer to fine you now. I was fined $75 for no front plate and $75 for the tint. Even if you installed the plate and removed the tint the fine still stood. I paid the fine and left my car alone.

In my last car I had 5% tint on every window including the rear. Never once in three years did I get bothered about it.
Friends that got called on it received only fix-it tickets. A cop actually scraped the windows of my friend's car on the spot once and was forced to reimburse my friend for new tint.

Just talked to some of my friends about the damn ticket and here's what most of them told me. I don't know if this is in the whole of US or NY State or my county but all the automobile equipment violation fines went up dramatically.
A friend of mine who got a seatbelt ticket had to pay 105 dollars... Since I'm not familiar with the fines since this tint tickey was my very first ticket I ever got, I don't know if this is true. Anyhow, mine is ALSO a fix up ticket as I posted above.
I'm left with 2 choices;
1. Leave the tint on, pay $250 fine and go back home
2. Take the tint off, pay $100 fine and go back home
Now that I'm aware that the tint could be removed myself using razorblade, window scrapers... would the tint film tear up during the process, or would it come off pretty easier in one piece?? is it like 5 minutes taking off and 5 hours of rubbing with goo gone, adhesive removers????

for me it was like an hour, but this was with really old brittle tint that came off in CD sized chunks. since your tint probably isn't 10 years old, it will probably come off easy and be a half hour job.
