Have a feeling that VW did the big bang release because they released the cars too late and too close to the 2019 release. Very well maybe that they won't be shipping in any more 2018's from Germany until the switchover.

Probably just wanted to get rid of all the 2018's in the docks.

Too close to the 2019 release? Say what? If it follows how 2018 went it's what 10-11 months away.

Tried protecting the dealer information but this is an invoice... lmaoooooo. Definitely not a big markup that some people think is on there. Discounts off MSRP are from dealer incentives which vary region per region and is considered dealer cash. Before I got in the industry I was naive like most consumers thinking there is a ton of markup, it's actually manufacture bonuses that get passed along to the dealer. Yes I work for a dealer. I'm here to put the honesty back into our job descriptions. We're all consumers and we all want what's best for us but in reality, our expectations can get way out of proportion.

golf r

Don't know how that can be offensive, but ya I work for a dealer just trying to set the facts straight here on the reality of things. No offensive to Golf R people but man some of you guys are waay too much when it comes to worrying about the tiniest things about the car

Well for a 40k car, I think that is justified. The R is for an enthusiest market, it comes with the territory. Just like how dealers are trying to markup and or charge MSRP for the car because of the "demand" they talk about.

Regarding the invoice, idk if what I am seeing is right or not as I see some issues with that picture. If so, it is still what it is. The consumer always needs to go for the best deal. Thats my opinion. The dealers who want the business will make a deal, those who don't will lose possible business. That being said, some do just pay MSRP.

You make it sound like it's the end of the world if you have to buy a car for msrp. If you buy the car or not someone else will.

Just a heads up for the Cali folks. My dealer just called to say the first two R's (pre orders) were delivered today. Mine is sitting at port waiting for transportation so it shouldn't be too much longer. I'm in Southern California. Getting mine for MSRP.

Something weird about how dealer reps joined in the last couple of months, made a couple of posts, and now trying to validate why they are selling them for MSRP. If cars were suppose to go for MSRP, negotiating wouldn't be an option. Dealers are there because they make money off of the consumer.

I get they are also providing convenience to consumers, but it is still a business.

Where do you guys get this invoice price. I have a hard time believing its only a profit of $1500.

Even if that is the case, I still would not pay MSRP. That is part of the business of being in the car industry. Whether its the R or not, dealers make a lot of money off of us. It's up to you whether or not you get the best deal for you and whether or not you want to support your "local businesses". (Not trying to needle anyone here)

I think the "local business owner" argument is mute for dealers due to their volume of sales.
First: the word is “moot” not “mute”.

Second: whether or not you have a hard time believing it, you haven’t provided any facts other than your own thoughts.

They simply don’t make tons of money on each car they sell. Try reading a book on economics.

I paid MSRP for my 2016 R and I just paid MSRP for the 2018 R I picked up last night. It is ridiculous to think that it’s just some rule you don’t pay what’s on the sticker.

It sounds like your feelings are hurt because you expected to be able to get a deal by huffing and puffing and now you’re trying to rationalize it. Why in the world would any dealer give much, if any discount, on a significant model that not only got a couple desireable features, but also has a limited run? Especially when you’re asking as other areas literally have none!

I don’t have time to get caught up on posts as I need to get on the road home from the dealer, so I’ll just leave this here for now.
Hey! You’ve got good taste....

Picked mine up last night and love it.

Question: did your dealer know about the R end caps for the keys? My 2016 had them in a baggie when I picked it up, so I had assumed the same when I drove off. Searched the car and can’t find them anywhere.

Had to go back to the dealer today and talked to the manager. He was surprised and was gonna ask around.

No, please don’t lump any of us in with Gambit. Most of us are very reasonable! :)
