Has anyone ever told you NOT to bother with an 8 Valve and swap in a VR6 instead? That an 8V has no power potential?
Vote your response and tell us why!
**HINT-Bragging time Hp & Tq #'s, maintenance costs, etc.

Same with me.
I said, "It's an 8v". I got a look followed by, "That's sh*tty".
Seem's the 16 valves is the standerd for performence.....
I like the 8v though, they make more low end then a 16v, but past 3k I cry and yell for a 16v. lol

yeah i'v been told by many people to swap in a 16v or VR6.. even 1.8t

first person to ride in my car was a muscle car guy.. drove a 71 cougar with a 351 Cobra Jet under the hood (with all the goodies)
he gets in the car and starts talking "man this feels like a rally car" (Car was stock with all interior at the time.. but he knew I was into rally)
"man nice interior"
I was sitting at about 4k in first and PUNCHED it.. thing chirped mid gear..
the look on his face was like
Image
"dude was that what I think it was?"
then I took him to the twisties and he was sold

I'v had alot of mkIII and mkIV people be like "aww that sucks.. you should swap in a 16v" when I tell them its an 8v. as well as mkII people who have never owned an 8v saying they are slow as balls etc..
most people shut up real quick when I take them into the twisties

the pass side "oh **** bar" was left in the car for a reason

Re: Any love for the 8V - Simply Yes or No..... (H2o)

I have people tell me that their VR is SO MUCH FASTER than my 1.8 Caddy. I'll have to agree, sort of. A stock A3 VR6 IS faster than my Caddy...by about .3 seconds in the 1/4. I always ask "How fast do you think my Caddy'd be if I dumped the extra 8 grand into it that you spent for YOUR car?"

http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif thats the way I like to think about it..
I spent $1200 on my GTI.. my first VW was a mkIII Jetta for $9,000..
think if I bought that mkII and used the rest of that money I had saved on mods

I have power all the way to redline, no problem.
But 2 more valves will pull even harder up in those Rpms.
Even with cut valves and a ported head the 16v will still out us.
Strait up...
I'd still keep the 8v, Unless it's a drag car ovcourse [20v]

Next time you beat a Honda say... " I only have 8Vs. How many do you have?" lol

Volksracer> My buddy has a 1.5 caddy, I said " how slow is it " he told me to take it for a ride, to my surprise that thing was zippy. lol an ABA caddy would be a bit frightening.
Along with H20, my powerband kicks in at 3500 and pulls till 6000, I have driven stock RV jettas and I dont understand the whole torque off the line and suffocation past 3500. Mine has always been the opposite.

Re: Any love for the 8V - Simply Yes or No..... (8ac1v1c)

There's only one Street VW in my area that I won't mess with (Blown VR6 Corrado) and I got a 1.8 8v (turbo though). I did a timing chain on a VR6 once....you gotta be kidding me with that crap. 1.8 8V FOREVER. I'd sooner put a second one in the back than switch to a VR6....two 1.8 8v turbos would be easier and still be cheaper.

Re: (8ac1v1c)

I like what this guy has to say about 8Vs. lol
" What u are doing is equivalent to needing a new tire for your car, so u buy $200 worth of bubble gum, chew them all up and stick the wads together to form a new tire, only to find out that the ****ing thing will not hold air, looks like ass, melts when the sun's out, your jaw is sore from all the pointless chewing and you fart pink bubbles from all the accidentally swallowed gum (furrrrrt.......POP!!!). Then you finally realize that what you should have done is bought a real tire for $100 from a shop and you could have been driving the whole time u spent chewing all that nasty HubbaBubba in the first place...

Re: (Slow1.8)

I didn't vote because I didn't like either one. People forget what the Lil' 8v can pack. My rabbit has an 1800 that TT built way back in the day like 1988. Sweet ported head and a G-grind, old skool Drake cam gear. Thing runs awesome and is a blast to drive and absolutely bulletproof. My 89 has a 16v that is about to be swapped out, leaving an extra 16v and I just can't bring myself to leave the 8v. I baddly want to put in 12-1 1.9 pistons and a TT288*, but the "rules" don't let me

Re: (ncvwnut)

8v's deliver maximum bang for the buck. Torquey, cheap and reliable. I will confess that nothing sounds as nice as a VR6, though.
