Got my beautiful machine yesterday but unfortunately NY/Long Island weather is 30degrees. Hesitant to use the 19” summer tires and thinking of buying 19” all seasons so I won’t need to worry(planning on getting snow tires and wheels either way), especially if my kids use the car. TireRack recommends Conti extremecontact DWS6 235/35ZR19 91Y XL, Pirelli All Season Plus 235/35R19 91W XL and Vredestein 235/35R19 91Y XL. I have no clue about this and would appreciate thoughts and input.

Thank you

The Conti DWS 06 is a phenomal all-season tire which I used for 2 winters (because winter tires were out of stock when I picked up my R in November 2015).

If I wanted an all-season tire for mostly summer use, I’d go with Michelin AS3+.

You will get lots of opinions about this...there are countless threads with people at each other’s throats regarding tire choice. Briefly, my suggestion regarding all seasons... I had the AS3 and they handled beautifully, but were far too noisy for me and wore quickly. I previously owned the DWS (NOT the 06) and they were too soft. I currently own the Pirelli Pzero all Season Plus, and they have been the best compromise between handling, grip, noise and comfort. All of these mentioned are ‘meh’ at best in the snow. With that said, I’m switching to a winter and summer wheel setup on the R and running performance winter tires in the winter.

I drove my new R yesterday in Long Island on the stock Contisport Contact 5Ps with no problems. Granted I'm still on the break in period and not really pushing the car really hard I still did not feel any significant lost of grip or traction at all. I'd keep the summer set for the spring and summer seasons and get a set of winters with smaller wheels for the late fall and winter months since you're looking to get snow/winter tires anyway. Why not have the best of both worlds? I'm running 17" wheels on Michelin X-Ice Xi3s for the winter months that I used to run on my 2015 GTI. I like having the peace of mind of a little more sidewall for the winter pot hole months. Anyway cheers and congrats on the new R!

Picked my R in mid-Feb in Southern Ontario and it's rarely been above freezing since then. I too might have been worried if I'd looked up the specs on the Contis, but I didn't until recently and drove around in blissful ignorance. Tires seemed just fine to me. Gripped OK and nothing terrible happened.

I'm going the 17" winter wheel and tire route for next winter.

I've had my R in Long island since 2015 and the best thing I ever did was downgrade to 18s. I run Conti DWS 06 on BBS CH-Rs for most of the time. Then I got bored and decided to get some HREs with blizzaks just to have a reason to by new rims and change up the look.

Switching to 18s made the ride more comfortable and I didn't have to clench my buttcheeks as much driving these terrible roads (I live in LIC and work out on the island.) Even with 18s the rims have become bent and needed repairs but I sold my Cadiz early so they were in mint condition and I got a good deal. Pretty sure your stock wheels will fetch a good price.

Yeah if you can swing the cost it will make sense to get separate wheels and tires. 18's with all seasons (I'm running conti dws as well, third car I've had them on) or if you want extra sidewall for pothole protection get 17's.

Replacing one wheel can cost as much as a.set of cheap wheels. I paid $560 for my 18's that I'm running in winter. One Pretoria is $600
