I guess I was wrong thinking Ford had decent presence in South America.
They have a presence, it's just a really expensive presence to maintain because many South American countries have pretty strong local production requirements - as I recall, both Brazil and Argentina put a hefty tariff on cars produced outside the country, and so OEMs have to maintain plants in both countries. Unless you've got a massive piece of market share, that's probably a money-losing proposition.
 
Here in Mexico Ford has been outmatched by the Asians for the past 10 years. Ford used to be a perennial top 5 brand and has dropped to 8th. So things don't look that good for them here either.
Yeah, once Hyundai and the Chinese makes started heavily investing in Mexico and SA, it got real tight for Ford. PSA is also having some issues.
