Blind spot monitor

Just picked up my 2019-S 6 Speed today and I love it so far. Only thing that's off is my driver side blind spot monitoring light keeps coming on for no reason. The lights lit on the left mirror when there's nothing next to me even when traveling in the Middle Lane of the highway. It will come on and stay on for minutes at a time. At one point took I had to shut the setting off in order to get the light to go off.

I’ve noticed that on rainy days my blind spot sensors give false positives constantly. Seems like water is blocking the sensor and causing it to activate as if there is a car there, even when there is not. Anyone else have this problem, or even know where the sensors are located? I’ve taken a few quick looks but haven’t managed to spot anything I would recognize as a sensor for that.

Car is an Execline (Can)/SEL Premium (US).

I’ve been getting it on clear sunny days. I’ll make a left and my left mirror signal starts blinking then stays on for a while as I’m driving. It’s happened on the left and the right side a couple times.

I have that system on my s, but I haven't experienced any false positives in the rain. And it has been raining here quite a bit in Austin. I too need to track down the sensors locations when I get some free time. Ill report back if I can find anything.

What a coincidence, I only just posted that very complaint in another thread. So it's not just me after all. :p

We sometimes (rarely) see it during "dry" weather, but on rainy days (or nights, light levels seem not relevant) it's guaranteed to be an issue.

We only see it on the driver's side though. I don't recall ever seeing the problem on the passenger side.

I wonder what the proper process is to report this to VW. If enough people complain, maybe they'll investigate this design flaw. With any luck, it'll be a software fix (that we'll be able to get).

Brad.

My '19 Jetta S does the same thing. I purchased the car new about three months ago and currently have about 4300 miles on it.

Heavy rain will cause the driver side blind spot moniter warning light in the mirror to stay lit for long periods of time, sometimes going off for about 30 seconds, then returning. The passenger side has also malfunctioned quite a few times during nice weather, lighting up for a few seconds and then going off. Also, the rear cross traffic alert has alerted me a few times while there is no rear traffic or obstructions. Combined with the transmission problems I have (coffee grinder noise and leaking trans fluid), I'm about fed up with this car. Very disappointed, as this is my first new vehicle purchase ever.

Has this been since day one? Or is it more recent. I currently have 1000 miles on mine and it works great, but if you started having issues with higher miles, then ill need to start preparing for issues.

I will say that my rear cross traffic alert has proven to be very sensitive, even picking up pedestrians walking a great distance away.

Unfortunately this is what happens when you buy a vehicle during its first production run. We’re the beta testers at this point and it’s a reality with all brand new makes and models. Certainly something to keep in mind for future purchases.

No, this hasn't been since day one. It just recently started around the 4k mile mark.

Mine just started in the last few weeks. And I’ve got about 3500 km

This. My first 4k miles were fine, then I noticed the leaking transmission (which I believe was leaking from new), and the other issues I mentioned with the blind spot monitering system malfunctioning in the rain and rear cross traffic alerting when there's nothing to alert me to.

Has anyone tried a negative battery cable disconnect for about 10-15 minutes, after all the systems get reset / restarted does it still malfunction? Just a though.
I have the same problem (Only in heavy rain). I had a problem with my battery and the car was sort of dead for 2 days but that did not help.
I still get the false signal in the heavy rain just on the driver side.

I just brought my car in for the ECU flash recall and the 2nd free oil change. Between the time that I scheduled the appointment and when I actually brought it in, the Rear Traffic Alert Blind Spot Monitor warning showed up every time I started the car, and stayed on. They looked into it and said the drivers side "slave" was coated in dirt. The passenger side "master" is covered to protect it from dirt. I was told it was a "bad design" and they have ordered both sensors, which are currently on backorder. They must have cleaned the sensors off because for about 100 miles and four startups of the system, I've had no issue. I do travel a backroad to get to work which is very heavily coated in sand and salt but is the most fuel efficient route. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
