While I don't love the styling, this is kind of nuts, especially because local dealers couldn't keep them in stock here. :screwy:

UPDATE: Honda Clarity PHEV Sales Now Limited To Only California

Eric Loveday

Is this why sales have declined sharply in the past few months?

Honda has reportedly pulled the Clarity PHEV out of widespread availability by limiting distribution to just ZEV states before pulling back the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid even more by making it a California-only offering.

***UPDATE: According to Honda, the Clarity PHEV can be ordered at any Honda dealership in the nation. However, stock is being sent solely to California at this point in time.

Honda spokeswoman Jessica Pawl issued this statement to Green Car Reports:

"California is the largest market for plug-in hybrid vehicles. In order to meet customer demand, we are currently prioritizing supply of the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid in California, rather than allocating units for dealer inventory in other markets."

Another beautiful gift to Tesla. It's baffling why mainstream automakers still aren't taking seriously the need to convince early adopters that you exist and have a decent product.

Huh, I thought Honda Clarity was only that dreadful hydrogen fuel cell car. Did not know a plug in hybrid existed.

Totally different buyers. The Clarity PHEV (as opposed to the Clarity EV and Clarity FCEV) has an electric range of just 48 miles. The Tesla model 3 goes a lot more than 48 miles on electricity. They're very different cars with undoubtedly very different buyers.
Different buyers but potentially all in the same household. Lease deals were great after my wife banged up the Accord so we picked a plug-in model up. But we HATE it. It's not a bad car exactly, but after driving an i3 for 35k miles, it's not great at the EV part of the equation. We now require some competence as an EV. Too bad we are stuck with it for another 28 months. blehhhh. Just a non exciting car all around. At least its roomy and comfy.

We have two in our fleet and no one takes them home (it's free to borrow anything we have).
work fleet? School fleet?

He works for Honda, so I'm going to say it's Honda's own company fleet at whatever facility he works at.
This. We've got at least one of every vehicle that Honda/Acura makes (including Marine and Power Equipment) at this facility. You are welcome to try out anything you want with the correct paperwork filled out.

We have a true BEV and like good gas mileage in our dd’s. When our 2015 Accord Sport met an untimely end in April, we were in the market for a new car. My wife’s priority was fuel economy. We looked exclusively at hybrids. We test drove an Insight and really liked it, but it was too small.

We checked out the Clarity. The interior was too tight, the trunk opening was too small, the cargo volume was too small, the price was too high, and the styling is atrocious. We passed without even taking a test drive.

In the end it came down to Camry vs Accord. My wife didn’t like the “feel” of the Camry so we bought the Accord.

If hybrid shoppers like us that have at-home and at-work charging can’t be convinced to buy a Clarity, I don’t know who can.
