I have to share how much the TT quattro's grip and handling improved after fitting a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Previously, the car had a set of all-season Continental DW tires, and I didn't realize just how much those tires were detracting from the driving experience.

The car has never handled this well. There's grip everywhere and better steering feel. Highly recommend these tires! Anyone else driving a car with these?

Are you sure your previous set was the DW?

The Conti DW was a Max performance summer tire, not an all-season. Maybe you meant DWS, which is a high performance all season?

Regardless, the Pilot 4S is a superior tire, but the DW I ran for a couple of years and they were pretty damn good, especially their wet grip and hydroplaning resistance.

I have Pilot Sport 3S's on my GTI, absolutely love them compared to the Cooper's I had before.

I always ran Pilot Power's on my bikes as well. They always had better grip than any other motorcycle tire I tried(although Dunlop's were very good too)

I'm on my second set of Pilot Super Sports on the FoST and have been really impressed with not only the grip levels but also the tire wear. They last much longer than you would think.

I will be replacing my current set with the new PS4S no doubt.

If we didn't get regular snowfall in the winter I'd probably have some summer tires, too.

But realistically the thought of switching between summer and winter tires and living in Arkansas sounds pretty damn stupid. Even without the snow, it gets cold enough that the PS4S' would be useless.

Your experience sounds like everyone else I know that switched to this tire over whatever they had previously.

Even in the Camaro Z/28 community, where the car came with super sticky Pirelli Trofeo track tires as factory issue, the big recommendation for people who want a tire with actual wet weather capability is the Pilot 4S. A reduction in ultimate grip (obviously, since the Trofeo has a treadwear rating of 60), but a massive upgrade in every other aspect.

I live in the Chicago area and run summer tires from roughly mid/late April to mid/late October without any issues. I run snow tires during the cold months.

The snows are better than all season tires in the cold and the summers are better than all season tires in the hot. Are the winters in Arkansas that much colder, longer and harsher than Chicago?

I don't get it. Don't all-seasons have the same temp restrictions as summers? Or are you getting all-weather tires?

Yes, you’re exactly right, I meant the DWS.

I have the Pilot Sport A/S 3 plus and they are incredible, even in heavy rain.
+2

Anxious to see how they do as the weather gets colder and maybe some snow hits the ground.

Good to hear that the 4S is an impressive tire. When I got the M3, it had a new set of bridgestone s07s, which have been fine. But I've been thinking about trying out a set of michelins, as I've never run them and they seem to get pretty universal praise from regular people and the media alike.

Of course they're not colder, harsher, or longer than Chicago.

We get just enough snow to warrant decent all seasons, but not enough to warrant snow tires. Same with temperatures. From December - March it gets below freezing pretty much every night, which means the morning commute is sub freezing, and often the highs are only in the mid-30's.

What it is not, however, is a winter wonderland from late November through April. Thus having dedicated snow tires is a little overkill. With that being said, it gets just cold enough that trying to make it through the winter on PS4S' would be interesting.

I just put a set on my S6 replacing the factory Pirelli's. the Pirelli's were garbage and lasted a whopping 16K miles. The road noise from the Michelin is way quieter and the grip is much better especially on initial turn-in. I had the Super Sports on my CTS-V and when I sold the car they had 28K miles on them and had plenty of tread left. The 4S's are supposed to have even better life. I really like this tire.

The Hankook Ventus S1 noble2 is listed as an "Ultra Performance All Season" tire. It's got snow flakes on the side of it, and they state it will handle mild wintry conditions. Is it a snow tire? Nope. Will it get you home in 1-3" of snow? Probably.

I was gonna say...

Because i've extensively driven both the DW and the Pilots on track for thousands of laps (as well as street) and the DW was not a bad tire at all. It's actually one of the better rain tires i've ever driven. The Michelin is the better tire but I wouldn't say by leaps and bounds.

Try the R888R next.

Got it. All seasons make a lot more sense in those conditions.

I've driven the F80 M3 on these, and they were fantastic. I had the factory Conti SportContacts on my E90, and then switched to the PSS tires, and it was night and day. For daily driving in temperate climates, there's no better tire than the P4S at the moment.
