I'd seen that ebay listing as well, but at 65cm...that's barely over two feet, not sure that's gonna be long enough. Might be, but not sure. The one I linked to looks exactly like the one I ordered, and from the seller I purchased from, so pretty much guaranteed that'll do the trick; and coming from Europe, shipping should be a bit more predictable.

That $11 one you're pointing to, coming from China....who knows how long that's going to take. I've had some stuff arrive in 10days...and then there's the thing I ordered August 2 that arrived this past Tuesday.

That's a really good point. I'll ask the ebay seller if they're anticipating more stock soon.

Oh damn - sorry about that; didn't notice that they were showing zero in stock.

Now, having said all that, I'm looking back at some of my install photos (below) and thinking - my cable doesn't look any longer than 65cm.

Cable is still making its way over from Germany so I decided to stop by the dealer again. They don't seem to think they'll have any problems programming the mileage and the immobilizer EXCEPT that there is a sort of call home system with ODIS where, if the car has a part that it didn't leave the factory, it may or may not allow the immobilizer to be programmed. I asked how long they've been using that system and the tech said since about 2016 so I don't think it will be an issue (based on others success) but I wanted to ask the hive mind. Has anyone had any issues with this up to this point?

Service manager at my dealer thought it might have the same issue yours suggested, but no problem here.
The tech working on my car did have some issues clearing errors, but a reboot (turning the car on and off again) solved the problem that he was trying to clear for over half an hour (at a cost of $150/hr to me ).

This was done roughly two years ago (time is a hazy construct for me these days), and the service manager was so impressed with my retrofit of the AID that he did the same thing a few weeks later; he liked it so much he thanked me and said how much he likes it just about every time I'm in there for the next six months. :)

Glad to hear it wasn't an issue. I'll be sure to pass along the struggles with the error message; I'm not keen on paying for a bunch of tech time either.

Got the display installed and the dealer managed to get things programmed! They said there was a problem with it accepting code, initially, and thought it was because of the GTi steering wheel but after they confirmed it has the same module installed they tried again and it took the code.
I am in love with this thing! One question though - on the view "Efficiency and Range" where the mpg and distance to empty are displayed, how do I change the mpg calculation to show "since last fill" instead of "since start"?

Have you tried pressing the “OK” button on the steering wheel? A quick press i think changes it, and a long press i think resets it.

Thanks for the suggestion Autofahrer but it doesn't change the value displayed over the center of the tach (it does change the value if efficiency is displayed in the middle, between the circular gauges though). It makes me wonder if there's functionality missing with our steering wheels not having all the buttons or something...

I wanted to take the time to make a quick post with all of the settings I changed in OBD11 as a quick reference point for anyone doing this in the future with the old and new values. Hope it helps someone!

One thing I did notice while programming these (before going to the dealer) is that some options cannot be changed without the AID installed - the car will reject the programming without the right part installed. Additionally, I failed to program Byte 22, Bit 12 before going to the dealer and when the car was returned to me, it was already toggled. I don't know if this is something the dealer took care of for me or if it was automatically applied because the AID was installed.

Additionally, the vinyl colors mentioned elsewhere in the thread (Avery Gray Metallic and OraCal 970-932) are not great matches. The Avery product is too light and the OraCal has too much green compared to what is already in the car. I agree with OPs original conclusion to have all of that trim wrapped - nothing is going to look right in the light.

I retrofitted the AID into my MK7 R. The centrally located driving info is fixed and cannot be changed from average fuel economy and range. That’s the only disappointed with V1 of the AID. V2 in the MK2 Tiguan SEL-P (wife has one) can be changed. You end up changing those parameters in the main console screen, ironically.

I can show several things in the center of my main dials, AID retrofitted into Mk7 TDi. The options are selectable via the Views menu, which is accessed with the steering wheel buttons. Views is one of the top level menus, along with others... Navigation, vehicle status, driving data, etc.

This is more along the lines of what I'm thinking is going on with this one as well (maybe there's something buried in the long coding??). At least it's nice to know I'm not the only one.

Agreed about scrolling left and right to change the views. What I'm trying to change, specifically, is what's shown in the picture above inside the tach ring where it say "Since start". I'd like to change that to something like "Since fillup" or "Since refuel" whatever their language may be.

Are both of you guys talking about the same thing, wanting specifically to change that particular view (to other measures like since refuel)? I was under the impression you wanted to see other information inside of the Tach/Speedometer, like in my pictures.

That would be left/right to get to views and then up/ down to select he view you want to see. I have never tried to see anything other than average mpg in the instrument cluster. That makes the most sense to me as being an estimate of economy for that specific trip.

Is it even possible to see average fuel economy since refueled in the main screen of the infotainment?

Yeah, sure is! Go left/right to driving data, up/down to average economy then "OK" button changes the average for "since start" "since refuel" and... "since [some other thing I can't remember]".

What I'd like to do is change the one on the left inside the tach like one can with the value in the middle.

Gotcha... I've never looked at any of those screens in depth. I haven't seen a way that any of the Views available in the AID can be customized. My only actual complaint is that with the R look you can't just get needles (like you can if set to anything other than R). It's such a weird omission.

I don't know if you can source it from a dealer, haven't heard of anybody doing so. But the splitters are like 15 bucks on Amazon or ebay, not sure you'd want to spend whatever the dealer might charge you for it.

Ok thanks, just curious ... as I haven't heard or seen anyone sourcing one. Curious what an R comes with.

Gotcha, I'm sure it's a splitter just like what you're looking for but with their included mark up. They also sometimes combine harnesses that go to the same place so you might not be able get the fiber optic splitter portion by itself, assuming you could find any type of part number for it.
