Hello I wanted some opinions on mechanics tool kits. I just bought a 18 drawer husky tool chest and I wanna fill her up with some good tools. I want some impact pieces and normal I’ve been finding some good deals just don’t know what most people prefer. What are some brands you guys trust??

Hey Carlienna,

Charles aka Humble Mechanic and fellow R32 owner has a couple videos on tools and starting out.

He just made this one the other day that's a bit more generic

His other one he did a while back is more vw/Audi specific

You should go through his channel and definitely follow him

I'd also say come join the VW R32 Owner's group on facebook www.facebook.com/groups/vwr32/
Lots of good folks and help there.

There are some regional R32 groups in the US also. Let me know where you're at and I'll send over the group for your area.

You can also join the Wookies in the Woods group www.facebook.com/groups/wookiesinthewoods/

I've been using Tekton for a while and they make great tools. I love their ratchets and their warranty is so easy, I would only buy ratchets, wrenches, sockets/bits, torque wrenches, stuff like that from them.

Harbor freight wrenches and sockets are a good starting point, Gearwrench or Sata if you want to go fancier.

Neiko torx/triple square/allen sockets (available on amazon) are absolutely stellar for the price and my go-to for the R since you'll need those regularly. I haven't broken or rounded one and I've been using them since 2013 or so.

My advice would be to hit the flea markets and estate sales!!! Old guys like me are giving up really good tools cheap all the time, for one reason or another. I've got Sears Craftsman tools I bought when JFK was in the White House that still look and work like new...all made in the good ol USA. I hate Charles!...Just kidding. His videos are great along with his buddy from Deustch ... Who seems to make a lot of "bad life choices". Lol

They are both very informative, but Charles makes everything seem so easy. I guess many things are easier with a lift and the right tools to start.
