I saw a white one tonight and there's a black one in my tiny mountain town as well.. They're super freakin' cool but I don't even bother dreaming anymore with all this dealer madness. I'd rather pay double the GRolla price for my pre-price increase Rivian reservation direct-to-consumer than deal with Toyota dealerships selling a "limited edition car."

I agree with the above poster that begging to buy things is insulting, and quite frankly it has all but killed whatever remaining "car guy" brain cells I had left in me. I still don't understand what market force is allowing all these people to finance cars at way gnarlier rates and payments than I've ever even considered while simply waving off the ADM as "a few extra bucks a month." Maybe there'll be a huge crash and I can walk into the dealers with a smirk and the small amount of cash I've saved by not playing this game, but then they'll be back to lowballing on trades even worse than they already do and I'll walk right back out the door...

Couldn't agree with this statement more. So over the drama....cancelled my order on a blackwing cadillac for this reason..I am sure in a few years they'll be out there..if not, whatever.

Saw a white one a few weeks ago at a c+c. Down the row was a new type r. Spent some time confirming what I already knew about the interiors of both. Toyota has some giant nuts to be charging what they are. Or the type R is actually a bargain

I mean, the Toyota does have awd with a rear mechanical diff. Toyota did pick the wrong time to offer this interior though, if they'd done it against the FK Civic, it would have been fine, but the FL is such a huge improvement, it really does stand out now. But the Civic remains a huge, huge car compared to the GRolla or Golf R.

Swung by the local auto show yesterday and finally got to sit in one. I'm sure the driving dynamics are great, but the interior was a big letdown. For what they're charging it is simply not special enough of a place to be. Maybe the Circuit edition is better, but I agree with the comments above; the FL5, for just a little bit more money, is much nicer inside and out, and will likely hold its value better.

Glad I gave up on waiting on this thing.

I feel like if you’re buying one of these (or really any Toyota) for the interior you’re barking up the wrong tree.

i mean not to pull a monster, but they really shouldve at least done something. We know that they spent every last dime on the drivetrain but the 86 by comparison feels like a mercedes. It's that noticeable.

I sat in one and I couldn’t believe how small and cheap this car felt interior wise in comparison to the competition. There is no way in hell I would pay close to sticker for this thing. I cannot wrap my head around paying ADM on it. This thing seems to be a dud. No offense to anyone, it is just my personal opinion. I’m glad they made it for those that find the appeal.

^^^This. If you're even paying attention to the interior you're missing the point of this car. My Evo 8 was like this. Probably the most fun car I've ever owned.

The problem here is that the CTR exists. Back when the Evo was around it’s not like the STI was that much better. Personally I couldn’t care less about the interior

I've watched pretty much every GR Corolla review, seems like 15% of reviewers love it but the other 85% are disappointed. Everyone seemed to expect some sort of wild child, hair on fire, back end out, hooligan mobile... but they got something that is planted and kinda sedate. I'm sure it's a great car, but if the interior has the quality level of a 20K Yaris and it's not a riot at all times to drive I don't see the point.

When Thomas from Throttle House said he'd rather have a MK8 Golf R over the GRC that pretty much killed it for me. I know the MK8 has the god awful button free interior, and the material quality is lower than the MK7 but it's still (I'm guessing) a massive step up over the GR Corolla.

At MSRP I could kinda get it, over MSRP I think it's nuts to get one of these.

Tell me more about Mk8 interior quality being lower than the Mk7. Having had a Mk7, a Mk7.5 and a Mk8, I don’t think I’d agree with that comment. I’d love my manual climate controls back, but really don’t mind the rest and everything has gone to stupid auto climate anyway.

There are things I love about the GRolla like the fixed calipers, mechanical LSDs and mechanical hand brake. It is chintzy that VW leaves all of those off, but they’ve had 20 years of success without them, so I guess it’s not a huge deal.

At the time, the Evo 8/9 were also not lauded for their interiors. But compared to others in its price bracket (STI, namely) the interior was not bad. Also, the GR Corolla performance is not wildly ahead of its competitors in any way. It's not like you're trading a crappy interior for outrageous hot-hatch performance. I think the formula worked better in the GR Yaris.

It is a steaming pile of **** to use, touch and look at. MK7 interior is far, far superior in every single way. Thankfully VW is fixing it with the upcoming facelift.
Okay, sure. I got out of one and into the other. Never had an issue. But you do you.

GR Corolla would have a very hard time against a 20 year old STI or EVO nor does it seem to be remotely as special to drive, well at least based on all of the reviews I saw since no dealers won't let you take one for a spin.

I'm really not understanding all of the bitching about the interior. But then again, I don't eat filet mignon off my dashboard.

I owned one of these in XSE guise. The GR has features mine didn't like a heated wheel and a legitimate handbrake and mine was loaded at the time. There were no issues with the styling or the materials or the design of the interior. Size is a different story, and a concern for some but if you're buying ANYTHING in this class for the interior, you're not in the right mindset. Having seen the Type R in person, the screaming red seats and carpets, and chickenwire for AC vents somehow makes a difference? It is a noticeably larger interior, but it didn't feel any better to me. The Type R was always going to be the more sought and valued vehicle in this class. It has a much richer history that the Corolla doesn't. The GR matched numbers step for step with the Type R while offering a completely unique engine to the segment.

It feels like the GR is cooling because people like Savagegeese set up wild expectations of the Yaris on a Corolla chassis, and that was never going to be the case. If that cooling is legitimate though, it'd be real cool if somebody would tell the goddamn dealerships.

The only subjective part you could hate on the type r is the red which is fine. But objectively the interior quality is miles ahead of the corolla.

The last two pages or so are exemplary evidence of why automakers don't release many cool entry level cars anymore.
The Corolla GR is entry-level!?
Hell, even the plain Jane Corolla is hardly "entry-level".
