Just like the title says. I cannot find ANY information on this. I am trying to get a cable that keeps my phone connected to android auto. This is a pixel 7 pro. I have tried about 5 different cables and they all disconnect if you just touch the cable. I even bought a new pixel 7 pro, SAME THING. Happens on the phone side of the cable, not car.

I am just trying to get the best cable I can for data and charging.

That’s a mystery for sure. We used Apple cables with iPhones in our 2018 and never experienced anything like this. Possibly a ground issue somewhere?

2023 Atlas with Pixel 6a, no such problems with the cable although I also have the wireless android auto option which works pretty well. Rare occasions, it may drop the connection then re-connect. Cases can get in the way of the USB C connector as well, but I'm sure you've checked all that.

The insert plastic on the car side is black, which is usually 2.0. the blue insert is usually 3.0

There may be something wrong on the USB-C port on the phone. It could be dirt or debris inside the port.

Option 2... get one of those Wireless AA adapter like a Motorola MA1.

I picked up one of these similar and it really is quite good. Though it seems like it is always powered up. I noticed that if I just walk near my car after it's been parked for a day or two my phone will send a notification that it's connected. Is that how this thing is supposed to be that port is always powered?

Have used Pixel 5 and Pixel 7 Pro phones in the Atlas on a daily basis for nearly 3 years / 52+k miles. We use a generic cable from Amazon if we want to plug in but easiest option is to just toss it in the console and have it charge wirelessly and connect wirelessly to Android Auto. As usual, if you are having issues with a cable, first thing to check is to take a small staple (or similar small metal item) and dig out all the dust and pocket lint from the phone cable connector. This will allow the cable to seat fully in the phone. If that doesn't work, verify it is working with your factory supplied cable (from when you bought the phone) or check online reviews for a quality cable.
Even with this, remember, this is a VW infotainment system - it will not work flawlessly. You will end up restarting it from time to time, sometimes dealing with rotating icons that never settle if you are on a short drive. During long drives, not uncommon for AA or the infotainment system to disconnect or need to be restarted.

I’m just noting in 6 years of ownership we restarted the infotainment system 2 times. I know at least one time no phone was connected to the system so I can’t blame it on CarPlay.

The pixel 7 pro does not come with a compatible cable. It comes with a usb c to usb c cable. I am looking to get a cable that works, but there are many variables, such as which USB A version. The color is not a dead giveaway, it is just usually indicative. Plus, what about 2.0 vs 2.1 etc. Nobody knows??

There is no lint or dust. I have cleaned the port.

It will charge fine, the issue is only with the data connection to android auto.

It may be the port, but my second, new phone does the same.

Are you using a long cable? Android auto is sensitive to long cables. Also you should probably buy "deoxit" contact cleaning solution. It is the absolute best contact cleaning solution and just spray both your ports. You can also use bw-100 spray too.

Android Auto, back when I used it on my Tiguan days... Android auto is very picky with the cable as wrong cables have higher likelihood of "Communication errors". Only certain brands seemed to work better than others. I've had decent luck with Anker brand cables.

See if the link works below. Bought a few of the shorter and longer ones to use in 2021 when we bought the Atlas and have been using daily for 53k miles so far. As for the comment above related to USB-C or other, I am talking about my 2021.5 model, maybe the earlier years used something different. If that is the case, try to look through the mundane reviews to see if people have been successful using them with AA.

Have you tried just connecting wirelessly and just plugging in for power using the other USB outlet, the one that doesn't transmit data?

I have read that article before, and I have the latest version on Android Auto 11.1.640244. There is no USB tool to detect quality. It simply is not there. BTW, the article also reccomends the following:
Amazon Basics USB Type-C to Type-A 3.1 Gen 2 Charger Cable

Middle of the pack
The AmazonBasics Cable is more than suitable to connect your phone to the Android Auto unit. In fact, it works with just about any USB-C device you can think of and has the added benefit of offering 10 Gbps transfer speeds.

I actually have that cable and it worked OK for a few months. It simply will not connect now. Not even for a little bit.

It believe it's a google PIXEL specific issue. Many reports in google forum discussions. People recommend and have success with this adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074V49MDK , also update to the latest android version, I believe 14 now. Find a friend with another type of android phone and test to verify if problem persists.

In my 2019 Atlas SE w/Tech, I have been using the motorola adapter to connect to android auto wirelessly. It worked with my oneplus 7 as well as working with my pixel 8 pro. If I want to use a cable for connecting to android auto or to charge my phone I just use the cable I had bought on amazon for my oneplus back in May 2020. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JC9XHPG The cable lives in my Atlas and I use it without issue.
