Hi, not sure if this is right forum but I have a mk6 golf tsi and the left indicator randomly turns itself on and Volkswagen says that they have replaced the stalk and the BCM, do I believe them? Not sure. Is there any other reason this might be happening since as they can't seem to figure out why it does this

Sounds to me like there is something wrong with the steering wheel control module (swcm) rather than the BCM

Did you get a log from the car, or are you able to get that. From that maybe we can see if that’s the case.

Hi did you get this problem fixed? We have a 210 Mk6 Golf with similar problems. Dealer has changed indicator stalk and BCM which did not fix the issue. Hope you had better luck. We have another fault that seems to be connected, when the car is locked occasionally one side light, front and back will come on, and sometimes flash. Can be either side. When this happens and we start the car generally the left side indicator starts with the stalk in neutral, put the stalk down and it goes off, put in neutral and the left starts again.

Sorry for the late reply you probably fixed it by now but it was the steering control module or something

I would start by testing the stalk. Next suspect would be damage to the wiring under the dash. After that I would start to suspect the main body control module - there are no separate relay, everything is built into the BCM.

Thanks for the update, and no we have not fixed the problem. Can you tell me which VW dealer did the fix, then I can ask my dealer to contact them.
Thanks heaps, Derek
the signal comes from the stalk to the steering control module I can't exactly remember what it's called then to the BCM. After some time mine started blinking left in neutral and then off at left. So they replaced the steering module and it's been fine since

I know this an older thread - but recently had the same issue on a 2017 Polo MK6 - read everything and expected the worst - we disconnected the battery for a couple of hours to eliminate an electronic glitch, this made made no difference as the left indicator and left parking light still came on intermittently (actually most of the time) next we removed the plastic housing over the steering wheel and covered the area where the turn switch was located with WD40 and now everything is working as it should. The car also had a similar issue with the wipers coming on intermittently - this resolved itself but I guess it's the same type of switch unit.
