Ok so what is the deal on this 1 series?

It looks to be BMW's answer to the Matrix, Golf, Mazda3 and Civic Si. RWD, four banger, appeal to the younger crowd.

They really should make this the 1-series instead:

Ok so what is the deal on this 1 series? Is it marketed at younger people? And does it come in a two door. Looking at those pics probably not.

They're shooting for 2 door coupe, 3 door hatch, and four door sedan body styles. The coupe and hatch will likely be marketed as a 2-series instead of a 1-series, with an M2 at the top of the range powered by a killer 4cyl (kind of like the E30 M3).

I was told that the 1 or the 2 series will not be coming to the States as it will self Canibalize the Mini market. But I'm hoping that what I was told is wrong.
If it does come, my boss knows that the first car we get is mine.

Re: (PDing)

It will be shown at the Geneva show in March, and no hatchback and 4 cylinders for the US.

The US won't see the 4cyl versions. Only the 6cyl ones. And it probably won't hurt Mini so muxh since they will cost in the mid-high 20s.

That damn video is the most frustrating thing I've ever seen. I keep thinking "Look down! look down! I want to see what the car looks like!"
Unsurprisingly, it looks to be marketed directly to young, single men -- the video includes eye-contact-with-smiling-hot-chick shots and stare-at-hot-chick-in-rearview-mirror shots. Classics.

how would you open those doors? I don't see a break in the glass. And if there is a break in the glass how would it seal? No matter waht i love the looks of that! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I'm feeling that 1 series.. loooking good!!

Re: (vdubjb)

i'd much rather have a mini over the 1 series, even though its smaller.. i'm sure the BMW will be way overpriced and underpowered like most of their entry level cars in the past (318ti). a lot of people will probably buy one just because they can afford a BMW but whatever.

Re: (Reflex5.5)

On a related note, anyone beside me immediately knew in what country this was filmed in, because of the other cars driving around (one specifically)?

I saw several Citi Golf's right there at the beginning, so I am gonna go out on a limb and say somewhere in South Africa.
