Re: K-04 Turbo Kit on 1.8 16v? (roccoturbo)

Nice setup... too bad its only about 1/16 of what you'll need for the total project. For for $600, its a good deal.

Re: K-04 Turbo Kit on 1.8 16v? (roccoturbo)

what else is needed to put this on a 1.8/2l combo 16v running CIS-E???
( I am turbo nobbie )

What kind of power can be expected while still running CIS-E ?

Custom DP & intake tubing ??
BOV ?
FPR ?

Re: K-04 Turbo Kit on 1.8 16v? (gtimagic)

Well, that system comes with turbo and exhaust manifold. You'll still need the following:
-Wastegate
-Wastegate plumbing (if the GT28 isn't an internal setup)
-Downpipe
-Boost Controller
-Intercooler (you're not running a big turbo like that without one)
-Intake Piping
-DV/BOV
-Hose couplings/Clamps (pricey)
As for the CIS-E, there's people claiming you can get upwards of 300whp with it, as long as you use various Audi/Volvo parts and a bunch of ExtraInjector Controllers. Personally, i think that method is bogus, since CIS-E is incapable of altering spark timing, and not adequate for controlling fuel in that environment.
I'd consider standalone or Digi1 for that kind of power app.

Re: K-04 Turbo Kit on 1.8 16v? (FiReSTaRT)

that turbo is about 3 stages too big for that motor.....if you want to spool after 5000 rpm buy that setup

the manifold is cool but that turbo is way too big for a 1.8 liter motor.... (i mean the ebay kit listed above)
i think a k04 might be a good turbo for your motor if you can get it setup correctly....

Re: K-04 Turbo Kit on 1.8 16v? (JettaManDan)

The GT28R is all the rage on the late model 1.8t's.
I'm running a .63 hot side with a Stage 2 wheel and I'm well in the boost by 4,300 rpm. Granted, I spec'd it for a 9,000 RPM redline.
Never did figure out why I kept hitting a brick wall at 8,500 rpm, but damn did it pull hard to there!
Most people should probably use a .48 hotside with a more agressive wheel. Satge 3 or 5.

Re: K-04 Turbo Kit on 1.8 16v? (houstonspeedfreek)

Agreed. Plus the dp flange on the K's is different than any premade exhaust manifold you'll find on the market.
