Excess noise... hmm maybe it is loud because I am in an all concrete parking garage... where normal cars drive by and set off other people's car alarms... Ahhhh a$$ ucker... He told me that it was just for a front plate... I hate california laws I am just going to put my car back to stock. I mean they could at least give me a legitimate ticket like speeding or something that is endangering the lives of others... but no I get a ticket from a cop camping out in a 6 story parking garage on the 3rd floor... who the hell was he going to catch... ME

is there truth to the 96.5 decibals law

yes, as long as it doesn't go over the limit, you are ok.. but you'll need to get it tested before going to court though

Re: Yay exhaust ticket... (DAS20V)

if UCSD is private property
I don't know... I mean it was a parking garage on campus
is there a section or code that states that as a fact somewhere that I can reference to
I mean I do have to pay for a permit to park on campus each quarter... I bet there is some stupid things that ucsd has with the cops that allows them to ticket in these areas though

Re: Yay exhaust ticket... (xgtiride)

Its sort of common knowledge, there should be some section to look that up, but then again, a state university is sort of a public area.....kinda gray, but it may not even be the police's jurisdiction....dont they have security guards or campus police? If not I would do the DB check I guess.
If it were private property, that would be like a cop pulling into your driveway and giving you a ticket while youre waxing your car.

That is true... I found a number to call about the dB test... I mean it would be close though... european car tested this same exhaust on a 1.8t and it got a 92 dB rating under load...

If it was UCSD PD that gave you the ticket, then they have jurisdiction over their garages also.

i got one of those tickets a few months ago so i know the 96.5db law very well after battling with it for a month.
Call up the state referee apointments center (1-800-622-7733), and make an apointment for a sound check. You'll need to give them your ticket info and your registration info.
Basically the test is put a db meter 20" from the exhaust at a 45 (i think it's 45) degree angle to the outside of the car. Then rev the engine to a certain rpm (for 1.8t's that ~4200rpm) and measure. You get 3 tries, and it cannot exceed 96.5 or you fail.

Re: (nameless)

Thanks guys.... So you failed the test... I am guessing cause you are selling your exhaust???
I guess that I am okay though... I mean I would really like to resolve the problem, but if all else fails I have an uncle that can just sign off on the ticket...
HAHA... new realization he said that there was medium traffic... I was the only car moving in the parking garage..."parking garage"

oh no i ended up passing, but as you can see from the pictures i ended up with like 1.75 exhausts

I decided just to slap on a stock exhaust and get my car smogged and registered in california. maybe i'll get a new exhaust at some point, but it's not high on my list of stuff to do. I started out at 100db went to 102 then to 98 then finally had 95 even when i finally passed. It was a generally frustrating experiance and since i got pulled over next to my work here in camarillo, i figured it'd be best not to attract attnetion from the stupid cops that are all around.
btw be careful around those parking garages, i hear the traffic is terrible

Re: (nameless)

After you pass, can't you just use the pass as a future reference
in case you get another ticket??? Or do you have to test all over again??

Re: (xgtiride)

i'm not sure, they took my ticket (which had my sticker that said i was legal). I would assume its in the system and they'd know but i didn't feel like bothering with it anymore. plus the 3" ghl is loud

and the droning was getting to me on my long commute every day

Re: (nameless)

Mine deffinitely drones... I love it but I can see it getting annoying after a while of long commuting every day... I am going to call that number to get my car tested... I will keep this updated so others can reference to it if they get a stupid ticket like i did!!!

Re: (xgtiride)

Hehe talking to myself...
Alright I have an appointment for getting the noise volume checked for next monday the 8TH of march... Will let everyone know how it goes http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Any recommendations for making the exhaust quit... I think that i am going to get there an hour or so early so that my car has time to cool down. The volume seems less when my car is cold...
