That's up to you and how much money you've got. I've tried to do every bolt on there is because I don't have the cash to bore the block etc.... They can't hurt and aren't that expensive. I would go for a lightened flywheel first. I've got a 1.8 and it does rev quick. I'm sure these help. I think what it was, was that my hopes and expectations were too high.

I d think so for doing the flywheel too.
But if it is to replacing lightened flywheel, it d be better to do something on the transmission.
Will you think so ?
Will you allow me to ask you more ?
If you were me to have a 87' Golf 16V, what will you first start and then after to work on the engine upgrading ?

Yeeesh! You'd probably be better to IM Powerdubs. There is a ton of people who know more. I can only tell you what I've done. I started with exhaust, then in order went to Autotech cams, flywheel,Neuspeed clutch http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Eurosport intake, pulleys and then this month we're putting on power module, headers and a 50mm manifold. Come to think of it, I would definitely start where I didn't, and that is going with a port and polished head. This should give you the most dramatic gain of power especially with an exhaust. Bilford has really good prices. That will be my final purchase before diving inside the motor.

From the drivers seat I honestly didn't feel a thing from these. Not saying they don't add hp, just not enough to go wow.

Agreed - the motor feels a tiny bit more "free" than with the heavy OE pulleys but I don't believe the cost of the pulleys offsets the minimal amount of benefit.

I've got the same opinion. One thing I've noticed, but have never seen mentioned in regards to the aluminum pulleys is their increased belt surface wear rate:
my Unorthodox parts have pronounced grooves in them after only a few years use, whereas the steel pulley sets seem to last forever...

So, up till this moment, no one really thinks that pulley changing is not well worth, right ? http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

If I understand your post (which is a double-negative), most folks believe that replacing the OE pulleys with aftermarket isn't cost effective - it looks cool but it doesn't provide huge HP gains.
