Re: is the 3.2 v6 from r32 making it's way to the a4? (toyotagardner)

I've heard rumors on this too, but no confermation. Whats wrong with the 3.0? I don't see why Audi/VW would use a motor that was designed for transverse applications to be put in an inverse engine bay.

look for it in 2005 for the 2006's along with the 2.0t replacing the 1.8t
- the engines are both mounted transversely so they will fit perfectly... it would make no sense for audi to produce the 3.0 for only one car when it would be cheaper to continue to mass produce the 3.2 VR6 in the touareg, new A6, R32, tt 3.2, cayenne, mkv jettas and golfs, new A3 and etc. not only that the VR6 has around 250hp which is needed to now compete in the sport sedan segment (G35 - 260, new TL - 270... and bmw is going to increas the displacement of their 3.0 to 3.2-3.5 in the E90 3 series coming out in 2005 as a 2006)

I think it will probably show up in the A4, but more likely the A6 first. However, it is a "VR" motor, not a normal "V". It's also the V6 in the Porsche Cayenne.
Good thing I started out w/VW way back when...

With the introduction of the new 90 degree 3.2L V6 with 255hp in the new A6 I find it hard to believe that Audi would NOT put that motor in the 05 A4. They could however, wait for the new B7 A4 to do so. With that motor now available, the likelyhood of the 3.2L VR6 being put in the B6 or even B7 A4 is pretty low.

...the new 90 degree 3.2L V6...

Ok, these two conflict. Which motor are we talking about, the ~15 degree 3.2L VR6 (found in the TT, R32, Toe-rag, Cayenne) or a 90 degree 3.2L V6?

The original question was whether or not the VR6 3.2 was going to make it into the A4, since that is the engine in the R32 etc. It would appear that with the introduction of the brand new 90 degree 3.2L V6 in the new A6, that would be the new engine for the A4 not the VR6.

Thats what I figured, and upgraded 3.0 right? I didn't think they'd put a VR in an A4

Actually from what we are hearing it's a whole new engine and not an upgraded version of the 3.0.

Re: is the 3.2 v6 from r32 making it's way to the a4? (joe@vwvortex)

But wasn't the 3.0 V6 a whole new engine? Did they just develop that engine for such a short period?
I welcome the idea of a new design as the 3.0 didnt show that it could make a lot of hp, and the 3.2 sounds like a better engine and should be cheaper to produce if it shares a lot of parts with the V8, which makes good hp btw.
I'm sure the VR6 will still see use in the shared platform cars, A3 and TT for now.
Any news on what chasis and when will the next TT arrive?

Well - from what I gather the 3.0 was a derivative of the 2.8 and the new 3.2 is derivative of the new 4.2 but I don't have alot of the specs yet.
As for the new TT - i'm hearing 2006-07
