has anyone used gunk fuel concentrated injector cleaner?. i recently put one on my gas and noticed a marked and immediate improvement in power, response and acceleration. does anyone have the same experience?. how frequent do you recommend adding fuel injector cleaner to your gas tanks?

In my experience, the cheaper stuff only helps in the beginning, then it goes right back to the way it was or worse. Use Chevron Techron (recommended by Bosch) every 3,000 miles.

Well, it can actually do some harm. Chevron admits that some techron will get past the rings and into the oil. They recommend using a bottle of Techron during the second to last tank of gas before an oil change. This way the Techron will be out of the system before you put fresh oil in, and you won't drive around for a long time with Techron in the oil.

How much do you guys pay for Techron, its kinda expencive isnt it? Well actually last time I checked was at a small 24 hr station and I'm sure the price was jacked above what Pep boys would charge. $8 a bottle... I think after 170K miles I deserve to get NEW injectors.
Wont have to clean them.

Re: fuel injector cleaner (Dieder)

Haven't bought any Techron, Gunk or any retail brand, yet. Actually, I've only added cleaner to the BMW, mostly because I found a place that carries the Bimmer logo stuff for $2/bottle.

I was thinking of trying that stuff in the GTI, since it's cheap and meant for some kind of German car, back in the age of mechanical injection.

Anyway, once an oil change, the tank that'll be finished prior to the change, sounds like good advice in general. Of course, oil almost always has some undesirable stuff in it, that's why people in the northeast change oil prior to winter shutdown. The more important lesson there is to change the oil regularly.
