On the 101 S/E in the Studio City area. Old dude driving. Black car, no plates, Santa Monica BMW placard.
OK, we've all seen the photos and I've seen it at the car show, but you never really know what it looks like til you see it on the road (I also saw a GTO recently too, looked way too much like a Cavalier on the road).
Anyway, from the rear, the 645 is probably one of the best looking cars I've ever seen. The lines are almost reminiscent of a G35 Coupe or 350Z, but just sexier. In profile, it's gorgeous.
I managed to get around it in traffic, and took a look at the front, well, that's going to take a while to grow on me. It has a bit of a schnoz. I bet I'll like it eventually though.
Say what you will, I like what Bangle has done. The 7-series has really grown on me and I know think they are gorgeous. And the 6, well, it oudoes all of them.
Just had to share, another day in LA, we get all the hot cars before everyone else.

Re: Just saw a new 645ci on the way to work (val98m3sc)

I spotted a black one being driven in Sewickley, PA about a week or two ago. I don't think any of the photos I've seen really showed how huge it looks in person!

The local BMW dealer has one. It is definitely not a hot car, but it does have presence. The lines are disproportionate or something, so it looks a little weird. I also think the car is just too big for a coupe, like a return to the gaudy 80's.
It was cool to finally see in person though, just not something I would lust over.

It's a mature hot car. And yes, it is huge. Its direct competitor is the Mercedes CL, another massive car.
It's very cool in an older guy sort of way. I see the buyers as 50+ guys that are too grown up for M3s or Porsches, but a bit too hip for a Benz. It's a cross of the 8-series and the orignal 6-series, on growth hormones.

Non-compact coupes http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
The point of a front-engine rear-drive coupe is that it weighs much less and is much more aerodynamic than the equivalent sedan, at the cost of a much less functional back seat. If you've already got a pretty heavy and large car though, the weight loss and aerodynamic improvement are minimal and the amount of back seat room you lose is significant; basically, you're just a poser.

M5. Or a 5 series with a big engine and performance suspension. At least then they don't look like posers.

the headlights are too low, the back end looks clean, the sides are somewhat typical coupe. i dunno, maybe i just need time to accept it. i'd love to drive one though, i'm sure it .... gets the job done.

My local dealer has a 645 convertible on their lot. I don't know if it's just for display, or actually for sale, because it has no sticker. Either way it's an awesome car.

I saw the Cabrio at the dealer and I instantly did not like it. Of course, it was in the light blue with a tan top (puke), but still.......the wheels, the trunk...everything....just looks kind of blah to me.....

California gets more hot cars than anywhere, it's a statistical fact. Something close to 1/2 of Porsches sold in the US are delivered to California. I see more hot cars in South Florida than when I'm in NYC. NYC has potholes that will swallow up many sports cars.
Now, if you're talking about pimped out SUVs, I'll give you that, NYC has that market locked down.

Would be the last $75-$80k car I would ever consider.....overweight, overpriced, hohum interior, stupid looking trunklid, and useless backseat (more room in an M3).
Have sat in the coupe and convertible a few times already, car does nothing for me.

The BMW dealership near my work has one. It is definitely the best looking thing to come from BMW in quite some time.

I would say the exact opposite. I've seen both the coupe and convertible at the local dealorship, and i think it's the UGLIEST car to come from BMW in quite some time. Worse than the 7 and 5. This car is apparently a love or hate design...
