I would say the exact opposite. I've seen both the coupe and convertible at the local dealorship, and i think it's the UGLIEST car to come from BMW in quite some time. Worse than the 7 and 5. This car is apparently a love or hate design...

Ditto. It just looks ungainly.
When and if I spend $75k US on a car I want to be able to say "wow my dreams have come true!". Not "it will grow on me, I'm sure".
I'm sure there are plenty of people with heaps of money who will line up to buy it though. That doesn't mean it's not ugly.

I have seen one was driven in it by a family friend... beutiful car in black w/ the nice big wheels, car is massive, but looks excellent and sporty non-the-less. Managed to catch a few stares going down the street. Its successful at everything it was attempting to be, luxurios, cruiser, sporty, sexy. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The BMW dealership in Gainesville has two coupes and this one usedcar dealership, Thomilson Motorcars, has two convertible ones parked facing each other on the street in this color.

Anyway, from the rear, the 645 is probably one of the best looking cars I've ever seen. The lines are almost reminiscent of a G35 Coupe or 350Z, but just sexier. In profile, it's gorgeous.
I managed to get around it in traffic, and took a look at the front, well, that's going to take a while to grow on me. It has a bit of a schnoz. I bet I'll like it eventually though.
Say what you will, I like what Bangle has done. The 7-series has really grown on me and I know think they are gorgeous. And the 6, well, it oudoes all of them.

After seeing a few as well around LA, I'd have to say the opposite. Everything forward of the C-pillar is gorgeous, but the trunk is most certainly not. I don't like the bubble-butt on the 7, and it's no different on this one.
Which still leaves me undecided on the new crop of BMW designs -- love the 5/1/Z4, but not a fan of the 7/6/X3.

overweight, overpriced, hohum interior, stupid looking trunklid, and useless backseat (more room in an M3

It's a big luxury coupe/convertible with tons of features, of course it's going to be heavy. I don't understand the criticism of the price. It's the same size as a Mercedes SL (and bigger in some dimensions like width) with all the same features and slightly more power. What price would you expect it to be? Interior/exterior design is obviously subjective. The only criticism I really understand is the small backseat.

hmmm

I don't see any resemblance. At all. The BMW lights don't extend into the trunk. The trunk lines are completely different. There's no bulge on the back of the Toyota trunk. Really, these look nothing alike.

Re: Just saw a new 645ci on the way to work (Triumph)

I saw a black coupe at a Magic game last Wednesday. I was behind it as it was turning left so I took in a few different angles, none of which I liked. I don't like any of the new designs so far...

Well, it does have more backseat room than the SL, that's for sure.

Seriously though, the 6 series is bigger than the SL by quite a margin, It's closer to CL size than SL size. But in any case, it has more horsepower than both the SL and CL, is around 300lb lighter than the both and is much cheaper than the both.

Re: Just saw a new 645ci on the way to work (Reflex5.5)

Saw my first 645ci convertible today and took a moment to take it all in.
As one that has not been a fan of all the new Bangle-d BMWs, I really didn't like this one either. For starters, it is quite huge. The woman driving this one was easily 55-60 and the car was HUGE for her.

One thing I noticed that wasn't totally clear is that from my eye level in the Jetta, the rear end was higher than the headrests and I could not see the driver. Found that odd.
All in all...it continues those lines we're seeing on the 7- and 5-series, but the rear and front ends are something that you have to get used to. It took me quite a while to get accustomed to the 7-series and I still have a hard time loving them.
My $75K will still stand loyal with the A8 or S-class. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

they sure do, they both have taillights, a trunk, mufflers exiting the rear, and badges on the trunk

The SL has a power folding hardtop and a much nicer interior than the 645. Material wise, the Benz is just a nicer car, the 645 has way too much exposed plastic in the interior.
A nicely optioned 645Ci goes over the $75k mark with ease. After driving and looking at the car in detail, I just don't see that price at all.

The SL and 645Ci Vert weigh just about the same, slightly under 4,200 pounds.
Yes, the CL is a heavier car than the 645 coupe.

Re: Just saw a new 645ci on the way to work (Beltfed)

Dammit Beltfed, you've ruined my fantasy of the 645Ci converible being my four seat convertible to cruise around with my friends on warm summer evenings when I get rich!

They're pretty damned nice! I saw an older couple test driving one the other day and I gave them a big thumbs up. They're a huge car!! My car looks tiny parked next to a new one! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Just saw a new 645ci on the way to work (lacuna)

I just drove one today!
Wow, the noises that thing makes are pure SEX!
It must have been a combination of the top down and some sort of exhaust tuning, but that thing sounds so mean, it's not funny! I think it might be the nicest sounding BMW ever! I found myself driving without the radio, and just gassing it for no reason so I can hear the big block-esque exhaust. It's also reasonably quick. The version I drove was the plain automatic.
I would buy it just for the sounds it made! If they could make an S4 sound like that, I would pick it over the M3 in a second.

For comparison, I also drove a 6-speed manual 545i, and it sounded NOTHING like the 6 series convertible.
