Re: Got off with a warning, but.... (YllwTRB)

Ok he finally called me back just a bit ago.
Here is the skinny...
Written warning's do NOT show up on squad car's computers. There is no way for another officer to know that you have received a written warning.
It is ONLY stored in the internal system database (City where you received the ticket)
If a officer from that city pulls you over again, it does NOT show up.
So no worries.

All good suggestions, but they don't know that you have nothing to hide. If they see you reaching into your glove compartment or even reaching for items in the visor overhead... it still looks suspicious. After all, they don't know that you're reaching for legitimate items. During the times that I've been pulled over, it usually seems best (and most respectful) to wait until they are at the window of your vehicle. That way, as mentioned above, you can tell them when they ask "...not a problem. My insurance card is in my glove compartment. I can get it at this time..." heh heh.... sounds corny but its worked for me.

That's basically what I do: "My license and insurance cards are in my wallet, and my registration is in the glovebox. Let me get them for you" -- then don't move too fast as you go for the glovebox, and definitely don't pull anything out of the glovebox too fast....

Maybe you had a bad experience with it but being honest has saved my ass plenty of times. Cops get lied to all day long and aside from being annoyed with it they know when you're doing it so you might as well be honest.

hahahahaha.... your "funny" cigs.
but on subject, after watching video of cops getting killed all day on friday by people who shoot them on traffic stops...its gonna make me jumpy when pulling people over. so judt let the cop know what you are doing and i most will be a much nicer person when they know your not gonna shoot em. we are human...well the other ones are..the jury is still out on me.

Re: Got off with a warning, but.... (vwjunky18t)

Take this with a grain of salt, could just be a coincidence.
But, I got pulled over twice by the same cop.The first time he said I'm going to let you go with a warning. A verbal warning. Now, the next time I got pulled over by him, *I* remembered him, but he didn't seem to remember me, or at least he didn't let on. And it was more than a year later. But anyways, he said to me something like "I see you've been warned about speeding" or something like that. So, he knows I was warned... but who knows, maybe HE remembered me, and I just didn't pick up on it. I don't know.
The funny thing is, he gave me ANOTHER warning.
Both times I did get the impression he was looking for drunk drivers, because both times he asked me if I had had anything to drink, and both times he told me to look out for crazies, and to pull over and call police if I see any.
Anyhoo, like I said, draw your own conclusions...

What are you going to pull them over for? Feeding the bears. You going to be a conservation officer you tool.

Talk about delusions of grandeur.

Re: Got off with a warning, but.... (vwjunky18t)

So i read this....then a couple days later I got rolled on 94 north, not a car in sight in front of me, just some behind, one of Illinois' Finest in a teal Camaro claimed he clocked me at 84 in a 55 but he never clocked me, radar never went off and he wouldnt show me the radar, saying "he turned it off" with an "oh ish" expression on his face. I also got following too closely and impropper light use. Follwing too closely was interesting since nobody was in front of me, impropper light use was when i signaled to change lanes i accidentally hit the brights in the process.
Tried the tips above but being 17 and male, i got the ticket.
Upon request are Illinois police required to show the radar?
Can anyone reccomend a good traffic lawyer? I heard that if you do traffic school youre under supervision for several months....can anyone confirm or deny that?
Thanks

In ANY state, they have to show you the radar if you request to see it. You should be able to get out of this one pretty easily.

Thanks, from where are your sourcing your information out of curriosity? Also is this for the entire term of the traffic stop or only until a ticket is issued or what?
Thanks a ton!

84 in a 55 isn't a ticket your gonna get out of. Unless of course you're a hot blonde in a mini skirt. Be happy you didn't get a reckless. Go to court, plea down to something and, get them to drop some of those BS charges.
Don't just pay it. Read this link. There is some very good info.

My father in law was a Hennepin County Sherrif and he told me to never accept a speeding ticket unless they can show me the radar showing how fast I was actually going.

Re: Got off with a warning, but.... (VikingVR6GTI)

I disagree with all of the above advice. I fidget, pull things from the glove box and stash them under my seat, keep the car running and rev the engine as the cop approaches, slur my words, and try to end every sentence with motherf*****.
They're usually so concerned about other things they forget the speeding charge.
