Re: 9-2X Pics at Autospies. (MisterSack)

Love the front, but they should have turned the back into a hatchback instead of a wagon, to make it more slant 9-3 style.

The Saab 9-2X is, and will remain, one of those pathetic badge engineering hatchet jobs to ever hit the automotive industry. GM seems to be oblivious to the potential damage that it will do to the Saab brand just to put some cheap cars on US Saab dealer lots.

How will it damage the Saab brand?

while i'm not much for badge engineering this isn't a bad car and its not like saab sales are outstanding or anything. this car will sell around here at least, an affordable AWD saab will definetly sell.

It won't. Simply because the Saab brand doesn't have an image to begin with. But I can't see how a dated Subaru and a mediocre GM suv are supposed to stimulate the brand.

Dated SUV? Dated Impreza?

From what I've read, this will be the best version of this SUV platform yet. And considering how well each version is selling, I don't think we can call it dated, at least the market doesn't think so. Besides, it is still competitive with everything else in each segment it is used in.
As for Impreza....How is the WRX dated? Put down the pipe.

Well what else do you want them to do? Keep making crappy FWD cars that are supposed to be high end?

I think i really like the 9-2X and will reccomend that my mom looks at one. She is in the market for a nice, preferably AWD wagon/small ute.
She has been looking at
SAAB 9-5 wagon
Honda CR-V
Subaru Forrester
I can't wait to see what kinda of reception the 9-2X will receive when it gets some STI type add-ons (suspension mainly)

Re: 9-2X Pics at Autospies. (ClownCar)

After seeing the pictures Id say it looks alot better than I orginally thought it would, maybe because the entire car has a much cleaner look than the impreza does. But I have to say Clowncar is right. This isnt a saab at all, while even past saab shared tons of GM componants, this is just a way to inflate their product lineup in typical GM style, Inflate the lineup, and sell with rebates, LOTS of rebates. The same will hold true for the saabblazer, which at least got its own dash, but will probabaly still be stuck with horrible onroad driving dynamics, and the platforms typical reliability problems. Sorry but in many ways this seems like the general is back to his old tricks.

Um, why would she chose to spend $3,000 more on this over the identical Subaru? Especially considering that the Subaru will probably depreciate more slowly in the long-run?

those GM SUVs come in dead last in every single comparo. at the upper end they lose to imports & at the lower end they lose to the domestics.
