Re: 330WHP VR (Jefnes3)

Yes, this is the wall that I have been running into. I have the GIAC NA program on my car now. At idle I am advancing 7-9 degrees of timing and 20-22 at WOT. Now under boost, I am going to want to pull back on timing and increase fuel. Correct? This is where my problem is. I can not find a fuel management that will help me out for the MK4 12V.

if you go with a turbo kit from EIP, HPA or Kinetics you dont have to worry bout how to program your giac chip, because those three kits come with software, so your not gonna need the giac chip any more.
I would say go EIP all the way, my buddy just his 1.8t a2 jetta coupe done by them and its sick. 316 whp. I am goin with eip in the winter.

Re: 330WHP VR (WMTJ)

I dunno vr6fool, you said you have heard about supercharging going wrong, its a known fact there is more involved in turbocharging a car. I mean i understand if you want big power then turbo it, but reliabillity will always be supercharger.

Re: 330WHP VR (ChesapeakeDubs)

Right, I know that turboing is more involved. I have seen supercharger apps being put on and the car being way underpower and the owner not being satisfied. Plus it seems like you have to spend more to supercharge and get the same results, due to losing power in the charger. Now, this EIP kit, I have read about. What kind of programming do they provide and what mods are done to the fuel system? anyone?

Re: (anderskt)

I will definitley look into EIP more. I emailed Kinetics and they said no apps available at this time for a MK4 12V. This is the problem is that the MK4 12V was only produced for 2.5-3yrs. then the 24V came out.

I dont know why alot of these companies only have mk3 kits, i know its a little different, but still. how hard could it be if thats what u do all day long.
EIP does great work, i have seen first hand on my buddies 1.8t. ill try and get some video of the car uploaded this weekend. its sickening.

Re: (anderskt)

Cool, I appreciate it. I will definitley keep everyone posting as this project gets underway. Also, I was just reading the thread on the ODBII throttle body "more VR6 machine shop fun". Good stuff and good to know that the OBDII can be DIY.

What about HPA? I thought they re-tuned the ecu with larger injectors on some of their setups.

Sorry, HPA does have software. BUT you can't buy it a-la-carte.
You have to buy the WHOLE kit.
Stage 1: ~$5,800
Stage 2: ~$10,800
for parts only.

Why are there so few mk4 options available:Not many folks have 'cracked' the code... its only been around since 2000.
Code dis-assembly is no easy task and most tuners just
mod 'stock' files. Early Mk4 chips are 512K byte and
current Mk4 stuff is 1M byte. (thats A LOT of code to
reverse engineer)
Plus the 'cracking' tools for current micro-processors
are expensive. When these get 'old' they will become cheap
enough for the hobbyist. They are also more expensive
than going standalone.
You'll begin to see more stuff when the mk5 hits the streets.
Do what I did, learn how to do it yourself. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
