I've been waiting for this car since Mazda announced it would make it to NA. If all goes well, one of these will be parked next to the MPV in my garage sometime this fall.
I love the lines of the 5-door...just enough of a rake in the back to distinguish it from the sedan: (of course these showroom pics don't do the car any justice)

The interior works for me - big, legible gauges, nice three-spoke wheel with audio controls:

Nice seats, IMO - they were quite comfy and supportive - at least sitting in the car in the showroom:

And now the #1 reason for my affection-- the biggest true hatchback since the last generation Saab 9-3:

Give me one in Lapis Blue with black cloth, 4 cyl, 5-speed, Bose audio, ABS and SAB/SAC...and I'll be

I wish mine had a hatch

But I still love my sedan nonetheless.

I wish Mazda had brought the hatchback out right away in North America, rather than waiting a year, but that's water under the bridge now. The hatch looks great, especially in the new orange colour that came out for the 2004s.

Saw the wagon.. they look pretty hot, hotter than the Lexus IS300 sportcross wagon.

Agreed. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif I like all three iterations of the 6 so far, but there just isn't enough dash strokiness for me to get that tingly feeling once inside.

Thank you. I now know what the difference is between a sedan and a 5-door is. I seriously never figured it out.

whew thought I was the only one...
in the commercials I keep thinking, it looks like the sedan, whats the difference... now I know and it looks hot http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Man Mazda hads done a great job of refining there name and style in my eyes...I really enjoy most of their offerings. Too bad Im not in the market for a new car.

For whatever reason, with the hatchback, it makes me realize that the sedan still looks very good. The V6 manual is so fun. I just regret the zoom-zoom image of Mazda and the fact that Mazda keeps insisting ugly rear wings on its equipped cars.

It's nice to see a larger hatchback in our market again. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif I always liked the old Mazda 626 hatches; I think it's a good step up for someone coming from an econohatch, but doesn't want a sedan or wagon.

My wife lover her new "6". A great car for the price. The only thing I don't like is the VERY orange backlighting in the instrument cluster. Much harsher than my VW's cool blue.

There are a couple of ways to distinguish between a hatch and sedan 6. First, the hatch has a rear wiper, the sedan does not. Second, the rear deck is longer on the sedan, and the sedan's third brakelight is integrated in the spoiler - the third brakelight on the hatch is built into the metal lid. But overall, the two cars look very similar.

Re: (The Chemist)

i drove one of the normal 6's this weekend. pulled real nice and hard and steady all the way to redline. i was quite impressed!!! it reminded me of the vr6 with the nice growl, torque and stuff. to me not worth the 31000+ price tag but still a nice car. props to mazda for stepping it up with the new models http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
