When I first bought my vw, I loved it now that it is 3 years old I have had enough. I just went through the bad MAF sensor ordeal, had to get a new altenator because of a radar detector, and some mysterious rattles that are occurring, grrrrrr. I am 10 months from paying the beast off too. Also a Publix Grocery cart has put a lovely crimped dent in the passenger side fender

Once this is fixed, I am done!!!!!!
Now that I am done venting, I am thinking of going to the Nissan Maxima, 2002/2003. I don't like the new body style nor the new car price. What are the opinions out there on my choice of car?

Re: getting ready to kiss my vw goodbye (GA_Golf)

shopping carts will dent most cars. You need a saturn.
It really doesn't sound like you had many problems at all. MAF's are warrantied now, and you can be reimbursed with a reciept that you paid for one. I should know, I was paid back for the three I had to buy for my last VW.
I am skeptical about the radar detector causing an alternator failure because I have never had a problem, nor have most that have them.
I am not trying to piss you off, but the problem you had seem to be minor or not VW specific. I even like maximas, so if you do decide to go that route, that's cool too.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Goodbye and good luck. I have had my car for almost 2 years now. I love her more and more each day. The closer I come to paying her off, the closer I get to modding her more. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Sorry to hear you dislike your VW so much

I have had mine since Sept. 6, 2000 and she has been great to me.

But soon I will be turning her over to my parents and getting something new as well.

The Maxima is NICE, but have you ever thought about the Sentra SE-R SPEC V or the Altima 3.5SE? http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I have had mine for over 3 years (2001 Jetta GLX) and despite having to dump $400 in it over the last six months due to a bad starter and an air intake problem (had the MAF replaced as well and it was under warranty), I still love driving it.
I recently purchased a 2004 Mustang Mach 1 which I only drive on weekends, but even after I drive that car - which is very gratifying, I still have the urge to drive my Jetta. Also with gas prices being the way they are now, the Mustang can stay in the garage and the Jetta will continue to shuttle me back and forth to work. The only drawback to my situation is that I wish I had a 3 car garage as the Jetta resides outdoors.
One thing I have noticed lately is I am getting a ton of compliments on the Jetta, but not quite as many as I get on the Competition Orange Mach 1.

Agreed.
Maximas are bad ass, but I will warn you: My '01 Maxima had a minor problem with 80k on it. I was accelerating onto the freeway one day and my crankshaft just up and snapped right at the pulley. $4000 for the new motor, and that was my Nissan employee price at the time. After I replaced the motor the power steering pump died. I sold the car and bought a '98 Contour SVT which was nearly trouble-free for 80k miles until I traded it on the Jetta.
All cars have their problems, it's ALWAYS cheaper to keep the car you have.

Maxima is

It's what I wanted back in '02 when I bought my Jetta, but I couldn't see paying $30k+ for a Maxima. Now the '04+ model... that's a different story.

Yeah damn VW. They should install force fields on their cars so this crap won't happen.
