Re: Fuel for 1.8t, should it be premium and why? (WOB ONE 8)

if you are detonating in a 1.8T then you must have some REALLY low octane or a big problem...
9 times out of 10 the knock sensors will pick up detonation and retard the timing on out cars before there is even a chance of it causing damage...but when the knock sensors retard the timing there is a big decrease in power

i didnt know that about our cars...thats good to know. so basically if im reading this correctly even if you put non-premium in your car it will be okay or no?

EDIT: so you will basically loose power but your engine will be safe?

with premium i'm usually getting 20 extra miles anyway, so really i'm only spending an extra dollar or so when its all said and done, and its just plain better cleaner for the car. not a hard decision. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I have a story about using premium gas.
I use to use premium gas from Mobile. For the first few months of my car, everything was going fine until my CEL came on.
I bring my GTi into the shop and they say that I"m using the wrong gas!!! I didn't know you have to use a specific brand of gas in your car as long as it was premium. They give me my car back and tell me I have to use chevron gas only!!!!!!
Isn't that something! http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
