My 2001 wj has started rough since the day after I bought it. I've taken it in many times and the clowns working there could never find the problem. FINALLY, the evil part, a suction pump, died and threw an error code so the trained monkeys could fix it. Since this problem plagued the car since it was new and I have the history at the dealerships to prove it, I thought VW of America would cover it, a no-brainer, right? Wrong! They actually told me since the techs couldn’t diagnose the problem that it wouldn’t be covered “because how could I prove that it was the suction pump that was faulty?” Oh because it runs right for the first time in years!! And how asinine is that? If diagnosed it then, it would have been fixed then. Jack@sses! I can’t believe that they won’t cover it. This is the last VW I’ll ever own!
Anyone else have any luck getting VWoA to pay up?

Ya, I'm pissed. It isn't about the money, as the repair was only ~$150, rather its the pricipal. This thing will be paid off in about 10 months and we were going to replace my wife's Honda. We've been trying to decide between a Land Rover and a new VW. Not issure anymore. And I told VWoA this and it made no differance. So F'em. They think that they automaticly have my business without earning it. Not the case. Its a shame really, I love the car.

You cand try, but I doubt you will get them to cover it. There is no *concrete* evidence that the pump was causing the issue in the first place.
The car "running better" is not quantifiable or easily proved causal.

Always remember to work with them not against them

Re: Good and bad news... (rs4-380)

rs4-380,
"no *concrete* evidence?" It ran like total crap! It doesn't now. How much more evidence do I need? And if is *was* grey, they should spend the pultry sum to keep me happy.

Re: Good and bad news... (Nitro)

Here is my point. And I am not arguing against you, I am simple telling you in reality what is going to happen. Can you quantify crap?
Who is to say that in replacing the pump they did not see a disconnected wire, or a hose, and reocnnect it, or even simply jiggle a hose that relieved a crimp from strain?
In other words there are too many ways for VW to refute your conjecture that the car running better was due to the pump (even though it obviously is), and that the entire time the car was running bad, it was indeed due to the pump.

Re: Good and bad news... (rs4-380)

rs4-380,
You're right, I can't *prove* that Jesus *didn't* miracle the car back to life at the exact moment that the pump was replaced, but it seems pretty obvious the part was faulty from the start. Owning this car has put me out many times over this issue. Taking time off work, being with out it, etc… Believe me, $150 is the least they could do! I just makes for good customer service. VW isn’t willing to go the extra mile for it’s customers.

Re: Good and bad news... (ATL_Av8r)

ATL_Av8r,
Like I said, its a matter of priciapal, not reliability. I vote with my dollar, and if you give me bad service, I'm gone.
Glad I made your day!
