Re: any opinions on the serpentine belt conversion? (Steve H)

I have the non-a/c, not power steering serp setup on my x-flow. It's heavier in both dead weight (brackets) and in rotating weight (pullies) than the v-rib belt setup.
Advantages are supposed to be quieter running, less vibration, and no squeals when wet.
Not sure if I am going to keep it yet - it came with my motor so I decided to try it. For a daily driver it should be nice but I'm not so concerned with making my car drive "nice"...just fast.

Steve, what accessories are being driven on the engine, such as alternator, A/C, or power steering?
The major advantage of a serpentine belt is the amount of gripping provided by the wider belt and multiple ribs. The additional gripping power is beneficial when the belt has to drive multiple accessories.
With this said, I seem to get a shorter life span on serpentine belts on my other cars than I do with a normal V-belt on older cars. The serpentine belt seem to crack across the width of the ribs in a "zillion" places.
I guess it boils down to your person preference and the amount of effort to do the conversion from a V-belt to a serpentine belt. Cheers, Ryan.

thanx for your feedback guys. Ryan, i only have the alt and water pump, so if it weighs more, and the belts don't last as long as v-belts, i guess you've answered my question. just wouldn't make sense to spend another $75 and not be getting much in return compared to the stock setup.

ive never really understood the need for them..
they clutter the engine bay, and weigh things down...unless of course youre running some superduty 150A alternator

I am looking into the Serp belt conversion to run a supercharger - what are the best ways to do the conversion? get stuff from a G60 or a crossflow, or does someone sell a conversion setup?
