ok, my Jetta has almost a 2 inch difference in the front than in the back. It's like VW put the sport suspension on the front and forgot about the back.
A week ago, I asked people what would happen if I put just H&R race springs in the rear to even out the ride. Of course, they told me that it would blow my shocks in no time, and the handling would be crap...not due to the lowering of the rear, but because of the stiffer spring.
So my question is, what would happen if I just cut 1 coil on the rear spring? Same stiffness, so it shouldn't blow the shock prematurely. I think I will do this on Sunday, just wanted some feedback from you guys. Also, how much lower will I go by cutting 1 coil (not a dead coil, unless you think that's what I should do).

just save ur moeny and get coilovers. just springs is a lame idea. cutting springs is even worse.

Save YOUR money and get a 'Y' and 'O' key.

I see nothing wrong with cutting a coil. Do it now. Quick. Everyone will agree with me. Trust me. Go!

Either go back to the dealer and have them verify that the correct springs are on it or buy a set of Sport springs (H&R or Nuespeed). Install them on all four corners and your car will be nice and even and about .25" - .5" lower. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Your VW sport shocks should be able to handle the slightly lower springs without any problems.

cut springs are ghey, as far as blowing shocks it wont really help, u bounce alot w/ cut springs, plus coilovers are deff worth the money because we all know what happens when u slam that rear end...

I thought the H/R sport drop was 1.5/1.4"? I also think this be my first post ever not flaming stupidity or grammar.

I wasn't aware that it was a favorite of homosexuals to cut springs... Homosexuals ARE evil though, so I guess they would do something bad like cutting springs. Right, cheif?

I plan on getting coilovers, but not for like 7 months.
So now the question is, do I cut a dead coil , or a "live" coil, if that makes sense.

I say just wait, it's not really important right now, and in spring you will be getting a new setup anyway.
But the first thing I would do is double check with the dealership if in fact they did install the proper rear springs, it shouldn't really be that way.
But have patience, the coils will look great, and you have a winter comming up very very quickly http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

i don't understand why you want to do anything to that car. i have the same one, only it's blue. it doesn't handle well enough for you? maybe i'm missing something, but the 18" low profile tires and factory lowered suspension give the GLI a big difference in handling over the GLS ...

Re: need a little feed back (deepfog)

if your not getting coils for another 7 months, you can look in the classifieds and get a used cup kit for cheap,i think i saw one for 150.It'll get you through for the next couple months and you can just sell it then
