The air intake (s) are poorly positioned for water crossings. You'll hydraulic the engine if you are not careful. I have had a wet aircleaner element after a river crossing (at mid-wheel height). The bumper shape actually scoops water up towards the grille. Just requires careful depth checking before going into water, and slow going in the water.
I second the off-road durability comments. A Disco is better if you're into hard-core off-roading. It is easy to break plastic bits off underside the Touareg's sills if you're not careful (and the rest). Lower rear control arms look weak and I'd like to see a strong skid plate.
