Ok, I am going to be autocrossing in the spring and I am looking into the TT brake upgrade and upgrade the rears to slotted from velocity sport. I was wondering if all of this is worth it, I will be autocrossing and driving on the street no road races. I will also be adding a chip, exhaust, and nitrous in the future. So is the brake upgrade worth it?

Re: Is the TT brake upgrade worth it? (MCCSpear231)

I have th kit on my 2002 GTI, I like it,
I have yet to drive it hard, but today going from 110 mph to 40 mph was faster and more sure-footed than the stop set-up.
The pedal feel is like stock, so I am looking for do stainless lines soon.
The rear on my car are stock, I heard the braking distribution on the 2002 GTI is 80% front 20% rear, so the rears do not do much
This is what I was told and could be wrong.
I am going to upgrade the rears too, but only after I get a few more mods.
The difference in apprearance is dramatic!!
The rear rotors are almost invisible and the Fronts are massive!!
I like it!
I will be posting before and after pics as soon as I finish off my roll of film

Price of the kit is $480
It installs in less than 2 hours.
The only thing you need to change is the "low brake" sensor on the original pads has a different wire plug than the new ones.
All we did was splice in the original wire to the new pad. Takes about 5 min. max.
And this is only if you want to retain that sensor, and it is only on the drivers side.
I got my kit from Velocity.
Thanks, Bryan

this is really interesting, only 480$???
thats a great price, and it includes rotors, calipers, pads?
how hard is installation if ive never done breaks before?
can you get these rotors machined?

Re: Is the TT brake upgrade worth it? (AxeAngel)

You can get the no frills kit for $380 with no-name rotors and pads. I would say the install rates as easy to do, get a caliper spreader and it's a cinch. Check out the 80mph-0 stopping distance for the TT =211' vs VW GTI GLX =232' and the TT is much heavier! Imagine what the GTI could do with the TT brakes.http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I don't believe you get different calipers - rather larger carriers for the stock calipers and larger pads to go in the stock calipers (I could be wrong though)
Also - does anyone know where to get the 12.3" rotors by Brembo - I'm looking for cross drilled setup...

J. Moss,
While were talking about it, how about a group buy through Velocity, on one of these sets?

I'm game if someone will step up and put it together!

your not going to see a big increase in braking power your still dealing with a 1-piston system, things might cool down a bit faster with the TT setup but for $380 it doesn't pay off, if i were you I would save the money and buy the Porsche boxster setup from ECS Tuning (http://www.ecstuning.com/) its a 4 piston setup and the complete kit will run you $999, if you plan on using your stock 16" rims you will need 10mm spacers and bolts up front which will run you an additional $95. But this is the best bump for braking at a great price.

Actually your best investment to increase braking power is to upgrade your tires to some real ones. Adding bigger brakes, better lines, different pads, and running wanna-be performance tires is pointless, as the ABS will kick in and kill the party due to tire slippage.......to improve braking(80-0, not Road Race), in order:
Tires
pads
lines
rotors
calipers
If the goal is road racing, the same applies, but the order can be argued....

Re: Is the TT brake upgrade worth it? (MCCSpear231)

I was running TT rotors with Willwood Superlights. Mad stopping power and no fade. However, even the 'street pads' tear the rotors up. After warping two pairs of rotors (yes driving hard) I upgraded to two piece rotors. I will never upgrade calibers without two piece rotors again. The Porsche kit uses one piece but boxters have brake vents, Golfs don't.
