Guys/gals,
My C just hit the 90K mark and I am thinking of a full tune up. Please let me know specifically what parts I will need replaced...i.e. chains, plug wires..etc.
BTW-its a 92 VR6
thanks in advance

Re: Full tune up... (sprite113)

Wires, plugs, distributor rotor, fuel filter; timing chains, tensioners and guides; while you're in there, why not replace the clutch; head gasket. That's about it. My 93 is in for all that work plus cams (might as well do that too while you're in there).

Re: Full tune up... (VR66m!)

LOL i wouldnt call timing chains a "tune up" job. more like a major necessity. I just had mine done http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif all of what you said, plus rebuilt ported head, motor mounts, and coolant system

How much does all that go for?? I'd like an idea, my C is at 90K km (that's about 56K miles)... when should all this be done by?

Some/Most VR6's go to about 100-130k and then show signs of Timing Chain isses,as well as Headgasket issues. Some cars have the problems sooner, some have it later.
Timing chains are not the problem, the plastic guides and tensioner is the high wear part. And you would need to get the gearbox and such out for this job.
Headgasket is the problem,as it is a weak design, and will break a small passageway and leak oil, sometimes its worse, and will burn oil/coolant.
Both of these can be done,As it seems to be easier.why? beacuse you can rip everything apart, and fix it all at once, and have a good motor for a few years

Tune-ups can be hard sometimes, sometimes they're easy though.
Spark Plugs, long life platinum is good 100k miles! $30
Red Ignition leads, the dealer stuff works well. $95
Distributor rotor is pricey at $42!
Distributor cap is also pricey at $50!
You need to buy coil wire,as it is seperate from 6 Red ignition leads
Image
$15
Fuel filter $22
Oil Filter $5 at autozone,STP or Duestche
Synthetic oil,$6 per/qt.
Techron fuel system cleaner $5
K&N filtercharger $40
K&N filtercharger cleaner kit $10
Why not flush & clean cooling system while you at it? $14 for VW coolant,or $7 Havoline 5 year stuff. $3 for coolant flush stuff.
Also check/replace the serpentine belt $50 + $3 for that M8x80mm bolt.(someone managed to hack mine up and kept it also!Damn Bronx people for ya!)
