I called my insurance companie's 800 number to get it insured, and was told that they can't help me; I have to go through my local office

. So, I have a brand new R32 just sitting in my drive way... pure torture

How did you get the dealer to release it to you without insurance? How did you get a loan, assuming you got a loan, without insurance?
Either way, welcome to the club...almost.

Most insurance companies will automatically cover new car purchases up to 30 days after your purchase. That is, you have thirty days to report it and add it to your existing policy. That is my experience with all of the companies that I have delt with over the past 40 years.

You are absolutely covered. It's the law. You've got 30 days to add your new car to your existing policy. You're covered at the same levels as your current coverage.

I was just thinking out loud. I know when I bought mine they needed proof of insurance before they would give me tags, or a loan. Come to think of it, I didn't switch the insurance to the R32 from the GTi until a few days after delivery.

this has always been my experience... unless you have some issues with insurance - high risk, suspended license or whatever - you should be fine... assuming you're with a reputable insurer.. state farm, geico, progressive.. whatever...

I concur....I bought mine on a Saturday & needed a faxed copy of my proof of insurance (30 miles from home & I forgot to bring it to the dealership when buying my R32.

) My insurance company was opened on Saturday & faxed my cards for my GTI, but they told me it was 'no worry' & 'call back at my leisure' to change the insurance over to the R32. I changed my insurance 5 days later - no problems.
Now get out there & drive that silver bullet!

Just call monday, if you are really worried, and have an awesome weekend in the R...
You could prolly leave a message at the home office saying you got a new car also if you are too worried.
But the law is 30 days. and it covers situations like this
