Over the holidays, I was in southern Alabama. (Also known as purgatory.) My girlfriend's dad has a Boxter S, and knowing that I am a car guy, he offered to let me drive it. The area that they live in has a long flat 4 lane highway through it. He drove first, just to show me that the car will easily hit 130+. We switched and told me that I should not do anything I wasn't comfortable with, but I wouldn't appreciate the car until I opened it up. I took it up to 125, and the car was soooo stable! Driving the car taught me one thing- braking and handling are as much fun as power! The other thing it taught me was that the Valentine 1 is the BEST radar detector on the market. The roads were flat and vacant, but over the one hill lurked a patrolman. The V1 picked him up long before we saw him. Fortunately, I had already slowed to 65. I love that car!

Re: Got to drive a Boxter S (soundzero)

The torque wasnt as impressive as the endless pull on the tach. It pulled smooth and consistent all the way to the top. The intake is right by the driver's left ear too. That must have sold more of those things than all of the performance figures combined. The hair on the back of my neck stood up when I floored it. I dont know if it was the banshee howl from the intake, or the intake trying to suck my head in. When I decided to slow down, I placed my toe on the brake to bring her down easy, and we went from 120 to 80 in a flash. No nose dive, and no jerking. Just smooth and stable. Dont get me started on the handling.

Re: Got to drive a Boxter S (speedR)

tsk tsk guys! never does one of these threads without someone bringing up the fact that the car is a Boxster, not a Boxter.

Just some friendly advice. The Boxster is definetly on my list of cars I want to drive, but I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to.

quote:

How did Porsche pick the name "Boxster?" It seems like a pretty dorky name if you think about it. (and yes, this is a serious question)

because it has a boxer engine, and it's a roadster.
