Re: it just goes on and on and on......... (******)

for me it is a law of greg the law of greg states that no matter how many cares greg owns only one will run at a time. i have four vw and this last couple months has been the only time that more then one has been running, and i am a aircraft mechanic, and a x vw dealership mechanic. the white gti need a new 2.0 lower end. all my friends said stick a 1.8 16v head on your 2.0 16v bottom. the head i got had bad lifters and droped a valve you can guess the rest. the 16v jetta lost a timing belt new belt i might add and the head is gone. i just put a new engine in the black rabbit so i am keeping my fingers crossed, and the 95 jetta with 290,000 miles just keeps going and i dont put anything into her.

i ask you, what the F was wrong with a cable clutch?

i asked myself this very same question the entire time i was tring to make the hydrolic clutch work.

Try bleeding the air out of the system on a Porsche 944. Takes two people about three hours to get it right. Not to mention the three hours it took to install the slave cylinder. That cylinder lasted three months.

Changing the master cylinder is no picnic either. I think they start with a master cylinder and build the car around it. I know exactly how you feel, but it's not just the a4 that has those problems.

thanks for the info, but i got it working now. a million years or so after i started. what an fing nightmare. thats why i love my rabbit so much. it's all so basic and great. after i get the vr6 going comfortably, i'm zoning in on the rabbit.

My story about owning 2 cars-
I had my 83 GTI and a 76 AMC Gremlin, but had to sell the Gremlin before i left for grad school a few years back.
be warned- you will never get enough (or what you think the car is worth) when you decide to sell one! especially after making alot of improvements and repairs and mods. it's probably a better deal to put one into storage and drive/work on the other one untill you can afford both on the road.

i hear that. i don't think that if i ever wated to sell either, that i would expect to get what i put into them. i would only hope that they would get a good home. i have to tae care of the daily driver and thats that. i wouldn't be where i am now if it was for her. and i mean that literally, where i am right now. she get me to work and home and anywhere else i need to go so the least i can do is give her what she wants when she needs it.

My '84's been great, but in the last month the timing belt slipped (my bad) the thermostat is stuck open (and it's COLD!) and on the way to work on Monday the front brakes told me they need replacing. Plus the top needs doing (and it's COLD!)...heh...so it goes.
By the start of next week I'll be past all this and cruisin' again.
