Bought my wife a 2001 WE Jetta a while back and recently noticed that the glove box is loose. It shuts fine, but when shut it does not close flush with the dash and you can push it in and out like a half inch. Does yours do that too, is that just the way they are. I'm taking it down to the dealer for a PVC sys. leak and I'll ask them about the glove box, but don't see how you can really adjust it.

Yeah dont even bother to keep anything in your glovebox that you may need on a daily basis and just dont open it period. Ive had it break on my twice and the second time I said screw this and left it broke. I have never opened it again.

Mine is broken too, and I'm not about to spend the big bucks for a new one, I have some 2 part epoxy sitting around, I'm going to try to glue the hinge back together.

Mine broke too about 9 months ago. Here's the deal.
Ask your dealer to cover this known problem. be nice If you're within the 2 year 24000 your set. If not, ask really nicely. The door from the dealer costs ~$120, plus labor, plus they will probably want to install and rekey the lock core instead of salvaging your old core.
IF that doesn't work, you can do what I did:
1) Call Parts4VWs.com @ (714) 633-9380 and ask Kristin to get you a glove box door. This cost me $90 (i.e. $30 cheaper than any dealer would sell me one for).
2) If you don't already have a Bentley manual, it would be a little helpful if you're doing the install yourself. Those run about $50 also available from parts4vws.
3) there are 7 Torx T-20 screws that hold the glovebox door in place. 6 are super easy to get to and the 7th is behind the center console, so you'll have to work a little to get at that one.
4) Once you get the glovebox out with the door attached, you can remove the door from the piston and replace it with the new door.
5) Now get out a flathead screwdriver and pry open your old door from the back. You're goal here is to get the old lock core out. It took me about 30 minutes to get through the door and remove the metal plate inside to get at the lock core. Remember its ok to totally destroy your old door to get at the core because it is broken.
6) Once I got the core close to being free, I inserted a key to hold all of the parts of the core together when it was removed
7) Then I transfered the lock core to the new door (it snaps into place).
8) Reinstall the glovebox and your done.
All told I spent $90 out of pocket VS $300 (a quote from a local dealer for the door, the labor, the new lock core and the rekey - thieves

).
Hope that helps a little. Remember try to get your dealer to fix it for you first.
