Officially an "Evo IX prototype GSR" this new look Lancer should come as little surprise, what with Mitsubishi already showing images of the Evo X.
Chief among this model's external upgrades are the new front & rear bumpers along with the fins along the trailing edge of the hood.
Collectively, the three assist in the increased air-flow management with the front bumper also providing increased cooling efficiency (while mildly aping Gialla's Super Taikyu winning Evo VIII).
Interior materials are said to have been improved.

I like the rear diffuser on it. Looks laot like the MR though.

The MR was heavily influential in terms of features & performance.

I like the new front grill without the triangular nose tip.
Alex

me too! which is why I'm going to perform some evo rhinoplasty to mine, so that it looks something like this:

I wonder how they'll handle the US plate issue on that rear bumper; having it hang below the bottom edge would look stupid, not to mention disrupt the airflow from that diffuser.

you don't say

The difference being that all the images you just posted are Golf IV models and don't attempt to be anything else. Jumping two number designations in one model generation (EvoVII-EvoIX) is kind of ridiculous, like Volkswagen calling the GTI, 337, 20AE, and R32 the GTI IV, V, VI, and VII respectively.
I think the idea is that it's pretty ridiculous to have so many "generations" of performance models which are so minutely different from one another. I mean, I kind of figured the spy photos and photochops floating around were going to be the EvoIX, and it turns out it will be the EvoX, and the IX will be an EvoVIII with a Gialla bodykit and improved interior materials? And we're wondering why Mitsubishi is this close to disappearing off the face of the Earth?

Well, I wouldn't call the different Evos "generations". They're "evolutions" of the model.
Either way, I wouldn't care WHAT they number it, as long as the car keeps getting better...

How about 30k for a car with 100k performance? (according to some people at least)

More than that. There's a guy in SoCal that likes his Evo 8 more than his 360. More fun and feels faster. Doesn't pick up chicks as well though.

Re: (HR_racer)

The only people who bash the Evo are snobs. There is no better car for the money and few cars with more torrid performance, especially ones within the reach of most people, and especially ones that can comfortably seat for adults. Then there's the comparative reliability.

I dont see my self paying 30K for a car with a 14k car interior

There are few better cars in the world market than the Evo. There are no other cars within the reach of as many people that can seat four adults comfortably, while rivaling supercars, being docile in everyday traffic and having some semblance of economy (the Evo isn't as finicky as a super-car and is reasonably reliable).
The only negative point is the lack of refinement.
Name one other car for the pric that can hold a candle to its performance. The only reason to bash the evo is if you're an ignorant snob.

...AND there's no car that can do all that, and still be driven to and from work in rush-hour traffic as comfortably. The EVO's just an all-around great car--why try and take away from that?
So what if the EVO 9 isn't that different from the 8? If it ain't broke...
