Sorry if this has already been posted, but i did a serach and nohting came up so:
i got my new spiffy passport 8500 radar/laser detector for christmas
well today i was behind someone that passed out at a stop sign or something so i beeped the horn, and my detector went crazy and said laser
said laser
when i beeped the horn
laser
...wtf? of course i tried it again 2 other times, and it does it anytime i hit the horn.
anyone ever heard of that? anyone know why? perhaps theres a laser something in my golf, whats the purpose of it? thanks in advance

Re: Golf horn laser...?? (StarsInFall)

Never heard of anything like that.
I have owned three different detectors with my dub (No Passport 8500 though) and never had anything like that happen. The horn puts out no laser/light/radar signal. Just noise

I guess you'll just have to stop using the horn. I have found that obscene gestures and simple yelling are just as effective.

Have you tried dropping the Escort folks an email via thier website? I have never had an issue with my 8500.
As far as cheap, just disregard the troll. Sour grapes from a guy who is probably sporting a GL with a Whistler.

I have an 8500. When it was installed in my *cough* Neon, every so often the laser alarm would go off for no apparent reason whatsoever. Sometimes it would do it when the horn was beeped, sometimes when I started the car, sometimes just out of the blue. I attributed it to voltage fluctuations, but the electrical system in my Neon was always top notch and never gave me any problems. Now that I have my Jetta, it hasn't gone off yet, but then again, I haven't had to honk my horn at anyone yet...

Re: Golf horn laser...?? (Lidberg)

My bf used to have the same detector until some ****ers stole it, but anyway, that never happened in his 944.
it doesnt bug me or anything, im not one to get bothered over something like having to push a button every once in a while
i just thought it was interesting, and wondering if maybe there was something weird about my golf i didnt know of, heh.
i really dont need the detector, i wont get a ticket in this city anyway, but they're still fun to have for trips. hehe
