I had an RV in my Carat with the dual DP and dual extit exhaust mani. And the GTI motor I bought is a PF motor that also had the dual DP and mani

Your Carat either had it swapped before you bought the car, or you are mistaken on the code. The PF in the GTI is correct.

Re: PF vs RV 8v engine (MicroBlast007)

2.0L 8v is the ABA or... um, AEM? block.
Those were first offered (ABA) with the MK3s in the form of the 2.0L Crossflow engine. The later 2.0L Crossflows had the AEM block, and this came about when VW switched to OBDII (1998) on the crossflow. You can bolt a 1.8L head to a 2.0L 8v block and get a nice power gain.

I'm guessing about as much fun as a sharp stick in the eye.

This is crazy! On my head there is a stamping that reads: 026 103.373G 3ME, with a 12 on top(over the 3ME). That means that I have the ME motor, right? Thats only 52 HP, with 71 Torque lbs-ft. This is a 87 VW Golf GT 8V. What I don't understand, is why I put-out better times at the AutoX then a VR6 MK4.
Could any one enlighten me on this?
Thanks
EDIT: I looked under the car, and I have the 9A transmision ( if it makes a difference), and I looked in the trunk(The little sticker that's half way on the body, and half-way on the fuel pump cover) and it does not sayu what engine, or transmision I have, only the int. ext. colors.

Re: PF vs RV 8v engine (maximus_manx)

My '91 Carat originally had a PF with dual downpipes. I checked my original factory details sticker (by lifting up the carpet in the trunk area) and it was consistent with the with the block (PF).

Re: (ponchotempest)

bah, I'll go take a picture of where it is on the head
ok, it's circled in red here. Real hard to see 'cause it's dirty but the first two letters are the code.

don't forget the Audi 3A engine. They're hard to find these days, and new oversize replacement pistons don't exist, but if you ever find a good running one, it's a great way to make your car a "sleeper"!
