Re: New ECS Lightweight Crank Pulley any opinions yet? (Lony)

The info from http://www.ecstuning.com :
ECS Lightweight Crank Pulley - Over 75% Ligher than Stock
Non-Underdrive system. This is our 2nd best choice to release hidden power from your crank after our underdrive pulley kits
Release hidden power without any sacrifice in accesory pulley speeds. This is a non-underdrive lightweight pulley that replaces the stock, heavy crank pulley. For ultimate HP you might want to consider ECS lightweight & underdrive pulley kit. For those that want east install & keep all accesories pulleys at same speed as stock, this is the ticket.
Stock Crank Pulley Weight : 1589g (57 ounces)
ECS LightWeight Crank Pulley: 375g (13 ounces)
Matches all stock dimensions of stock crank pulley.

Beating the death out of the pulley questions.

Oh yes man I DID search, but this is a new product and not a complete set but only one piece. Curious if it will do anything good.
Whatever, I ordered it and maybe I'll give you some feedback on it.

Re: (evilpat)

I have the Turn2 lightweight crank pulley on my jetta.
I noticed the pedal felt lighter when starting off, but once boost kicks in, it feels exactly the same for me.
After having my crank shaft and crank bearings scratched and scored and my motor seized and dead, for the gains from a piece like this?
It will never amount to the $5000 its costing me for a rebuild.
I'm sticking to my stock pulley and ensuring the crank is properly harmonically dampened by the STOCK pulley. Well, until Fluidampr makes an application for the 1.8T.
After my experience? I'll leave the pullies the F**K alone.

Re: (Lony)

First of all: A big big http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif to the service of ECS tuning! I ordered this part sunday afternoon and received it today in Germany!! This is the fastest delivery I EVER experienced. What a great service.
Out of the box the part is really quality looking and lightweight, I will post a review as soon as it is installed.

how many miles did you have with the pulley on before your motor went? You are aware that there are many individuals putting lots of miles on their pullies . . . . I have like 40K

Closer to 80K over here on my ECS three piece set. How'd you blame the pulleys on whatever happened?

Re: (VDUBNDizzy)

Close to 20k with NO problems.
I have the UR pullies (very similar to ECS)
As for those who say pullies dont make a difference under boost.....

My car pulls like a beast at 4000 rpms and up. Def notice a HUGE difference from before and after the install.
FYI....mods are intake, 3"dp/cat, 2.5" exhaust, APR93 and N75j

Re: (iae21)

98k km on motor and too early for a rebuild by my watch.
Fact of the matter is the crank was damaged and metal shavings
destroyed my oil pump and circulated through the whole motor.
Stock crank pullies are heavy because they are DAMPENED and balanced. Lightweight pullies may not be perfectly balanced and sure as hell are not dampened so any vibration will shake ur crank around and cause damage.

For what its worth, theres my 2 cents. I dont think the weight saved on the crank is worth the damage to my motor. For the measly 1-5hp you think you gained on your butt dyno.... I rather not.
For now I'll seek gains from my rebuilt bullet proof motor and a bigass effing turbo.

edit: had about 10k km with the pulley before crap hit the fan.

Now how hard do you people abuse the cars? Constant high-reving?

I was under the assumprtion the 1.8T crank pulley did not have a harmonic damper. There are a lot of BT guys and others, using the whole set with no problems and lots of miles. I doubt it was the pulleys fault for the internal problems.
Anyways, when I do my timing belt, I'm putting the whole set on! And ECS, they are great... their shipping is always fast as fack!

Re: (iae21)

still doesn't mean that the pulley caused the problem . . . though possible all the people successfully running the pullies for MANY MORE miles suggests otherwise. There also has been long discussions on harmonic dampers and the 1.8T, but not recently.
