I have a 96 GTI 2.0l with stock calipers and rotors. Im looking to upgrade. Im keeping the stock rear calipers but upgrading the rotors to cross drilled or slotted (keeping the 8.9 inch). The front though, i would like to upgrade the size of the rotors and the quality of the calipers. Anyone make a caliper/cross drilled:slotted rotor combo kit that is larger than thew stock 10.1 inch rotors on now. Remember its a 4 lug patter. I want direct bolt on (plug and play). Looking to upgrade to 11.5inch like the vrs or even larger. Thanks.

Re: Need bigger front brake kit for my 2.0 GTI!! Help!! (96GTI8v)

Why? You will upset the braking balance and in return get less braking performance. If you want to stop better your best bet is to have quality, sticky tires. Then good pads.

if you score a set of Corrado G60 caliper carriers, they're a direct fit for your car and calipers, and you can use the G60 11" rotor http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I have this setup on my 2.0 Jetta. i have in addition steel braided brake lines. They work great. Pedal feel is a lot better, confidence grows when you brakes are good. One thing, You have to run minium 15" rims with the G60 setup.

i too did the G60 front brake conversion. first on my 2.0 16v rabbit. they were huge on that car.
and recently on my 1995 golf sport that i put a vr6 into.
you can get new rebuilt corrado g60 calipers and brackets at your local import auto parts store for about $60 each with core of your old calipers and stuff.
then i got some slotted 11" rotors and pads from http://www.ecstuning.com for $200 shipped. so for about $320 you can go to factory 11" vw setup.
works great and not too much heavier then stock.

Audi coupe quattro daul piston calipers and Coraddo G60 rotors. http://www.ecstuning.com For a new kit, Oooor since you are in allentown, go check out Lenny at L&T on Airport Rd. and grab some used calipers and a rebuild kit (~$20) from NAPA. Tell Lenny Justin with the black Jetta sent ya if ya get out that way.

If you're strictly looking for "bigger brakes", then the 11" Corrado G60 setup or the Audi 5000TQ (Girling 60) will work fine. But, as previously posted, braking performance is affected by your tires, lines, wheel weights, pads, and fluid. It might be more cost-effective for you to get some new pads, new rubber or stainless lines, and a fluid change with Ate racing fluid, then see if you really want the 11" hardware. You can re-use your new pads on the Corrado's calipers if you decide to go bigger http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Carefully read this article.
http://scirocco.dyndns.org/faq....html
90% of people don't need "bigger brakes", they need high-quality pads, fresh fluid, good lines, and excellent tires.
That cars have ABS in the first place is indicative that cars can easily overwhelm the available traction they have with perfectly mundane stock braking systems.

Thank you, Don http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif However, you and I are probably the only people who will read that article since it's longer than one page, contains facts, and doesn't have many pictures.

Re: (Air_Cooled_Nut)

You probably don't need bigger brakes. I've tracked my car extensively and the stock setup is perfectly adequete. I run Zimmerman powerslot rotors with Porterfield R4S pads, Autotech braided lines, and ATE superblue. The car stops amazingly well. Just get what you've got into top shape and you'll be all set.
